Sure, but I'm asking about that particular case. If environment was the cause, then it stands to reason that more kids in that environment would have done the same thing she did.

Are you really this dense? they are drawing a distinction between those who fantasize, and those who are compulsively willed to act on those fantasies. Its the difference between someone that needs to fukk kids, and one of those weirdo JBO nikkas that makes smileys when discussing teenage girls, and sexualizes them, w/o necessarily harboring the intention of wanting to go through with the sexual act. This is consistent with the laws in this country, since we dont arrest people for thinking about about something, but acting on those impulsions....your example is between a category of people who have gone through with the act (serial killers) The APA are adding dimensions

If the difference is definitely the environment then one environment would produce proportionately more of one type of behavior than another, but that isn't the case with serial killers. They come from a broad variety of environments. Some were rich, some were poor, some were different ethnicities, some were different sexes, some were in different parts of the country/world, some were abused, some came from 2-parent homes, some had different levels of education, etc. It has to be something other than just the environment defining behavior for that large a disparity to occur. There are some profiles that law enforcement can use, but there really is no defining environmental characteristic that would ensure someone would tend to be a serial killer over, say, a schoolteacher or plumber.​

That is FBI standards not the Bible of Psy. I studied serial killers for years and you can trace 95% of them to abusive households.

Ahhh, got you. I read a LOT about 'em when the Atlanta Child Murders were poppin' up to present-day. I think a lot of those cats were lying just to get some leniency upon sentencing. From what I understand, most of them think they're more intelligent than the rest of society, and that gives them impetus to do the things they do. Then, you got cats like Jeffrey Dahmer that completely fly past a 'normal' profile for a serial killer since there was no abuse in his developmental years.​
