I love Nas. That Office Hours song... I mean, sheeah, Nas' flow was one of the worst ows I've ever heard from a top lyricist.

I can't believe that shyt went over in the studio.

Yep, 100%. These people are not hip hop heads like that, they're just Nas fans. For them, all music is painted through the lens of what it means to Nas. They have no idea what they're talking about because they don't even pay attention to hip hop like that. They have no context to draw from.

I already dismantled @Ziggiy's entire argument to the point where he had no rebuttal, and he just picked right on up repeating the bullshyt talking points that have already been disproven. These are not sincere people. They are here to present their twisted version of reality and that's it. Even when their lies and contradictions are pointed out they're not going to admit they were wrong, because for them the truth doesn't matter, they just want to be right. It's agent behavior.

Just speaking for myself, I got nothing against Hit Boy. I am actually checking for more of his other stuff because of the Nas connection. He is a dope producer.
But I just want some variety, is that too much to ask? I'm not even picking for Nas just work with some other people just to change it up some.
I'm a HUGE Nas fan, I think he's the best dude to ever pick up a mic and MC and it's not that close. But I gotta admit after KD 2 I'm less and less excited each release. I thought Magic was a step down from KD 1 & 2, KD 3 was a resurgence but not to the level of KD 2 and Magic 2 is probably my least favorite of the run.
Also, Nas was known for long breaks and I liked that. It makes you miss the artist and more interest in their next release. Flooding the market with Hit Boy is having the opposite effect on me.

First off, I want to thank you for this post instead of the crackhead takes that I've been seeing in this thread (guys are now saying Nas has declined vocally and lyrically............what?!).

But my theory is that what we're seeing now is what Nas always wanted. He's never been a Sade or D'Angelo type of artist. He always took a year off between albums at the most. And even when he didn't have a solo project out, he was still doing features, freestyles, and other things like Distant Relatives. Stillmatic, The Lost Tapes, and God's Son all came out within a year of each other. I Am... and Nastradamus came out the same year. Street's Disciple was originally a triple album, Untitled was pushed back seven months. You see where I'm going?

Nas is on his own label now and he has the ability to drop what he wants when he wants, without label interference or needing to overthink a track list. If anything hurt his albums in the mid 2000s, it was those two things, not bad beats. There were plenty of great songs that never got a proper release and would have elevated the albums they were made for. Nas doesn't have that problem anymore because Hit-Boy is a great collaborator and has pushed him into changing his process. If Nas had his way, songs like "Car #85" and "Beef" would have stayed in the vault.

At the end of the day, people shouldn't get bent out of shape with who Nas chooses to work with. Hit-Boy is bringing him into a space where he feels comfortable and motivated and energetic. We keep getting new albums because these songs aren't just sitting around anymore. If Hit-Boy is helping make this era happen, Nas should keep working with him. I don't care who makes beats. Premier, Alchemist, Madlib, Salaam, Swizz, RZA, Rick Rubin........whoever. As long as the final product is dope, it doesn't matter to me.

If the Hit-Boy albums aren't your thing anymore or they never were your thing, that's okay. You don't have to like them. But Nas inspires these weird reactions out of everyone so you end up getting insane opinions that should probably stay close to the chest. "They make too much music," "I don't know why Nas keeps working with him," "Pete has the right to judge the way he wants," "Nas has declined vocally and lyrically," "Nas doesn't sound like he did twenty years ago." Pretty soon, Nas discussions are going to become as unbearable as Eminem discussions, and I might not even want to jump into them anymore.

That's cute and all, but if they were easily debunked you would have responded. You got called out for contradicting yourself and then you ran away from the argument.
Easier for you to try and distort reality than admit when you're wrong though, ain't it.

The only thing I saw in the Magic 2 thread about Jay is some light "Jay gonna drop an album now too" jokes, come on that's hardly hate

I didn’t run from anything, I got tired of going back and forth because all was going to come to is a back and forth endlessly on dumb opinions that have zero basis in FACT. Even the notion that Pete Rock would co-sign a tweet that says Bas hasn’t picked good beats since 1994 is ridiculous. Like the fact that people are actually saying “Pete Rock has the right to his opinion because he’s a legend” KNOWING good and goddamn well that Pete and Nas have personal beef is intellectually dishonest. EVERYBODY knows Pete Rock has an axe to grind. We know he’s hating. And its gotten to the point Nas himself has addressed it.

Its really beneath me or anyone else with any common sense to engage in these debates. This thread should’ve been 1 starred with 5 replies. If anything i’m dead ass WRONG for contributing to the validity of this ridiculousness and your own delusion

None of that has anything to do with what me and you were discussing.

I get it, though. It's difficult for you to admit when you're wrong. Don't sweat it.

Yeah I shouldn’t use the world relevant, but I’m saying there shouldn’t be a rush to see Nas with Pete Rock production when Nas has produced classic albums without him and he only has one truly notable song with him, a great song but not only one song, Illmatic was a classic because of multiple songs on the level of the one Pete Rock produced and that was almost 30 years ago.

I would be more excited to see Nas with Metro Boomin production at this point in time, he’s a great producer but it’s always Nas that gets unfairly judged by the purists, no one is asking Jay to work with Ski beatz in 2023, move on, the production on most of his work recently has been good in my opinion.

I don’t think Nas should rush to work with Pete either. But if I have to choose between Pete and Hit-Boy, I'd definitely choose Pete for a Nas album today. His production is still better than Hit's, to me, and Pete is like 60 years old, lol.

You mentioned Jay, but Ski is a much better producer today, than he was in '96, so if Hov got in the studio with him today, I think that would be dope. The sh*t he's done for Curren$y, Mos Def, Cam'ron, Stalley, Camp Lo, Smoke DZA and others has been some of my favorite production in the past decade. So as a fan, I would be mad hype to see something like that happen. I just think people want the best music possible. So you're right, it might be a purist way to see sh*t, but that's what being a fan is all about. We're gonna always want our favorite MC's to return to past glory. How could we not?
