1.Mos didn't do blackface for some bum ass Toronto clothing company, he was in a movie called BAMBOOZLED, where he WASN'T in blackface,. Black is not black. AA is an ethnocultural group. If you weren't raised in America by a black parent born in America to American blacks...you ain't in it. :yeshrug:
2.Drake's Blackface shoot was a separate idea thought up by him and shot by a white man. No parallels to classically trained actor/artist/activist Mos Def. His content and actions fit. He's one of US.

@Brooklynzson and all Mods, this request is for The Booth, and all other Forums on thecoli.com

We are proud to be black, blackface is a reminder of a vicious racist period, the effect of which is still felt and seen today in our society.. there's no place for this on here or any forum.

How is it ok or even possible in 2018 to both create and post something so racist and insensitive on a black Hip-Hop forum without consequence and not get

-marked with low quality or offensive posting (effectively hiding the posting)
-warned
-bushed

When they are clearly racist and I am assuming violating the terms of use?

Is there a way that you guys can make sure:
1. All blackface smileys are banned from being used and that somehow all blackface smileys are deleted/things are set up in a way that if someone creates them technically it's no longer possible to use them as a smiley upon discovery/reporting
2. Any post containing a blackface smiley gets marked as offensive/racist and gets hidden
3. Users who use blackface smileys get bushed for a certain period
4. Users who use this smiley again, somehow, get permanently banned
5. These rules get communicated through a Stickied thread and a pop-up
6. Added: users should also not be allowed to use blackface in their avis

As a black man I speak for many of my brothers on here that we do not want to see this smiley or the Drake blackface smiley and that we feel that anybody who creates and/or uses this smiley should ideally be permanently banned.

Naturally a consequence of this will be that smileys made on The Coli will be used on Neo-Nazi, Alt-Right forums to further ridicule us, only a zero tolerance policy against this stuff can help. Sure, freedom of speech is great (seriously) and we can discuss race and religion and whatever we want on here - but there has to be a line of respect and this crosses it.

Sure the blackface smiley of Drake is now popular culture, but that doesn't mean it's not EXTREMELY offensive and for the first time I, as an avid The Coli supporter and fan, have the thought of 'maybe this is not the environment where I want to spend my time as a black man' pop up in my mind.

PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS OWNER/MODS..

If there is no manpower for this I volunteer to help with this and I'm sure many others would not mind helping with this.

Thank you for your time
The fact that those smiles were allowed knowing that non blacks post here is suspect itself.

Mos Def did blackface for that same company ( too black guys) a year before Drake did it...

Kinda surprised no one brought that up yet .

Anyway I dont fukk with Drake on any level but that smiley is distasteful. Even if it was put on known c00ns like Whitlock it would stlll be distasteful.
I know the brehs behind the 2 black guys brand and I seen this drake image years ago. It always felt like a bad idea and they didn't really execute well. This was during the phase when they were trying to relaunch the brand which was actually from the early 90's. I forgot it existed until this beef... :deadmanny:

Black is black.

At the end of the day as much hand ringing as we all do about his blackness .. he is black.
Black is black

OK you are white. You clearly don't understand how light skinned black people were treated completely differently from dark skinned black people from the days of slavery until today.

Beyoncé is one of the most talented black women, ever. HOWEVER: do you notice when you walk into any magazine store that there are 95% white women on the covers AND Beyoncé? You B A R E L Y see dark skinned sisters. It's only since the last few years (post Oscars so white) that SOME dark skinned actresses are getting some shine. What about the 100+ years before that?

It's clear: white is the epitome of beauty, and the only black women who can get all the support from the powers that be to become huge stars are light skinned. That has been the reality forever.

Drake is a great artist, don't get me wrong, but had he been as dark as Pusha T I highly doubt he'd a) be getting this much play from the powers that be b) (here's where internalized racism comes in) this many dark skinned sisters would be fukking with him and be happy that he's getting mad (white) girls..

You are white, you don't understand this of course because you don't see the different treatments from up close but we do. It's cool that you hang out here and want to be educated about our realities

I don't know bout him doing a Blackface shoot but he did actually do model shots for 2 black guys clothing brand, this was around the time he had some ties in the city and loosely lived here... Brand is from the early to mid 90's...

The guy who headed the brand went on to design for ROOTS canada and their olympic apparel. He is not a c00n, but that whole Jim Crow shyt flopped hardbody. I think he went to Roots after..

Yeah I feel like seeing that smiley so much is going to desensitize me to blackface. Drake played himself with that pic but we don’t have to plaster the site with it.

The problem is that should never become "normalized".. Like this is not an image within the normal standards of decency. This is already a racially charged climate and we have enough opposition to deal with.. so if that becomes acceptable, then what's next?

@M-ILLITANT - you're basing your issue on his screen name? Like there aren't a number of black users that have white-inspired usernames from films or characters. You even have black users in here with white avi photos.. even worse, there are verified known cac users in here that have violated, but yet remain untouched. So the fact that you try to call out a known black user for bringing up issues relevant to the community and speak on matters that pertain to the race as a whole, or racial issues is very sus on your part.
Thank you sister. Thinking about it.. @M-ILLITANT has to be an infiltrating agent.

Dude has a name we use as something positive (a black militant, we think that's a good thing) YET he wants the Drake smiley to stay.
Dude has a black woman as an avi, in general we do -whether we disagree at times- see our black women as a positive.

In the meantime he's either government, police and part-taking in discussions that affect our black lives for real and at times can't stick to his role and says 'the Drake smiley stays..' that makes absolutely no sense. What I would give for a SAFE SPACE for black men and women to communicate: no potentially racist cacs, no agents.. and NO this is not racism white people already have that safe space: it's called western society..
