Man I have about 3.5 years experience as a pharmacy tech in CVS (yes it was hell) and have had no luck getting into a hospital pharmacy.

Anyway you could help a brother out?
Yeah I can... Do you have your admixture technician license? It’s about $3-500 to pay for it out of pocket. But once you get that you can apply for hospital jobs. In most hospital pharmacies now it’s an requirement..

Yeah retail is hell on pharmacist and techs alike, I did a long residency there. But also try to get an entry level IV position like an infusion clinic. That’s the new wave in pharmacy.

Hospitals are so expensive and some compounding pharmacies will just hire new IV techs to do that for 8-10hrs.

Also lastly to make the super big bucks as a tech, get with a staffing agency and do travel pharmacy tech. I was a traveling Rph last year. The money is crazy.

I knew some techs making $30 an hour plus $500 tax free food stipend and $1500 housing. Like there were techs making almost 3k a week after taxes because that’s how the agency pays but once you get some IV/hospital experience you can do that.

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Well I haven’t seen any hospital jobs that hire techs that haven’t been certified. Now retail will hire you has a “tech in training”. Hospital/nuclear/compounding pharmacies are more advance and pay more.

Go to the library, and get a couple of PTCB books and study for a few weeks. You can pass it!

As far as traveling certs, you have to be registered in each state in that specific state in order to practice pharmacy. For instance. I’m registered in Texas first because that’s where I sat for my exam initially. But now I’m registered in like 30 other states.

You basically have to follow their requirements to get registered in the state. Like Cali & wsh state we’re like 8 weeks, but other places like NY & Vermont was moreso me just passing a background and the specific state boards validating my license was active plus paying the fees.

The hospitals during traveling do minimal training so they expect you to know systems such as Pyxis or Omni cell, EPIC, and things of that nature. More experience you gain locally, you can take it on the road and make
more money.
