They never even got to back to back finals. It's not the celtics who although they didnt win back to back went to 4 straight nba finals in the 80's(84-87)

People often say this like it means something. :heh: NBA is a players league. Phil did his thing no doubt, but you give me Jordan and Scottie and Horace/Dennis or Shaq and Kobe or Kobe and the triumverate with an average coach and I like my chances way more than if you give me Phil and an average team.

Average coaches had their opportunities with those same players you mentioned, and failed. Kobe and Shaq were getting swept out the playoffs prior to Phil's arrival.

Granted, you can make the argument for Popovich being a better coach. But you can also make the argument that Popovich wouldn't have been able to handle the GIGANTIC egos of Shaq and Kobe together on one team. Pop doesn't seem to have that disposition to adapt to those personalities (I could be wrong), but he doesn't strike me as that adaptable in terms of player personalities. Xs and Os is just one part of coaching on a professional level, managing personalities is equally as important - that was PJ's area of expertise. However, he was also great on the Xs and Os...one example is drawing up that play for Kukoc in the 94 playoffs against the Knicks.

Phil Jackson was also smart enough to implement ideas of other geniuses in the game, like Tex Winter's triangle offense. Phil implemented that, cause after 7 years of Bulls failures in the playoffs, he realized the team needed an offense were everyone felt involved - not just standing around and letting Jordan operate.

Implementing the triangle was genius on Phil's part, especially when Jordan was against it at first calling it an "equal opportunity offense".

Like I said, no one was winning titles prior to Phil's arrival. Phil Jackson was coming off back to back Championships as a coach in the CBA prior to being hired by the Bulls. Mock the CBA all you want, my point is Phil was winning in that league, which resulted in him being hired. He obviously knew basketball.

EDIT: I can't see Dennis Rodman lasting two weeks with Popovich for a coach. That's not a knock on Pop either, I'm just saying it speaks to Phil's greatness.

When did Phil have average teams though? He always had one of those guys when he was coaching. We never saw him with a bunch of nobodies. Those guys were copping L's before Phil but they were copping L's in the conference finals. I don't see Phil taking the team equivalent of Doug Collins or Del Harris to the conference finals. I am not one of those who says that Phil did nothing. He did his thing like I said. But there is no denying that having the great players benefitted him waaaaaay more than having him benefitted them. And that's no knock on him either that goes for pretty much every coach in league history.

I deduct that he means they weren't dominant champions because they never could defend their championships. They didn't really dominate the league, yet they were consistently an excellent "force."

Many educated people will say Pop>Jackson, especially when you look at the talent each had

Nah, I know a lot of people will say that, but it's not true. It can be argued that pop can't coach GOAT level superstars with egos... And it could be debated that none of them won without Phil so the argument can go either way. Like i said in my original post tho.. Even pop doesn't believe that breh.

:what: how the fukk can that be argued if Pop didn't have GOAT level talent with egos?

This might be the dumbest post I've read in a long time

Plus a three peat team never really falls off suddenly. when it does it usually does so because they gutted the roster.
thats then a whole diffferent squad.
a dynasty is a singular group of guys.
