maybe i'm ignorant so forgive me if this sounds stupid....
wouldn't it make sense to have a resolution output option on a console that is capable of 4k?
if someone didn't have a 4k tv then just change the resolution to 1080 and have more FPS.
or if you do have a 4k TV then select 4k resolution.

Come on dog, outside of the US and your spot, the XB1 ain't moving units like that. Their sales reflect that.

That's why this thread is fukked, and why nikkas over at neogaf fukked up and overreacted. Phil was saying that it CAN do that, its just that for games that decide to go 4K 30 over 1080p 60, you won't see a difference from what we're getting now if you're using a 1080p TV since that's the highest it can go.
Hopefully, developers will give us 60 fps on 1080p a chunk of the time over a 4K game that's doing like 25fps. Shooters will be ok since you need that framerate in competitive games. It's those adventure games that will want to show eye candy you'd need to worry about.

Pretty interesting tidbit, the interviewer asked Phil if scorpio will enhanced past games, and from what he tells us, those games that had dynamic resolution will see improvements because the console will be able to handle more without needing to drop pixels. Used Halo 5 as an example, saying it would much more likely stay locked at 1080p without needing to drop.
