Those who are against this... You do realize that the companies that make most of the soda lobbied a few decades ago to get their drinks into public schools with small children, where they addict them with sugar? How are they making a smart choice when the vending machines are in every hallway? Hyper tension and heart disease from poor diet is the number one killer in the AA community, this hopefully will make people choose the right drinks.

Well, the supports of this tax angled it as a revenue-increasing tax instead of a health concern tax in order to get it to pass. The health angle didn't work in NYC.




I might as well hang out around south Philly, buy a bunch of soda from a warehouse club, and then sell some untaxed soda on the DL on the street corners right near the elementary schools. I'll probably make a cool $10 of profit after cutting out cost of soda and gasoline costs for 8 hours of dealing.
