They we're out of the game long before Tommy died. And Joey was frontin them before Random Access Money (their only release on a major). They had mob ties since the beginning. Oh yeah Boy Backs is on Masta Killa Loyalty is Royalty album.
Did the city stop fukkin with them because of the whole snitching thing? I always thought Boy Backs was the only decent one, but supposedly, they were poppin in Philly in the 90s. Philly rappers hardly mention them though.

no question should've been the dru hill of the early 2000s.

they shot some of the original video for "I don't care" right around the corner from my crib. the version they aired on the box.

The Dru Hill team was trying to get them blackballed cause Tommy sounds like Sisqo and they lost momentum after people started saying Nick was gay and the Broke up
But they needed better overall production, writers & marketing.. Rest in Peace Damon.

well they had their run on top of the city.

by the time they got with universal tho, they were kinda old school.

I would say Tuff Crew was bigger as a music group in the city 80s-90

Ram had the streets cause they were deep in the hood .. and the mob.

But Hiphop was fully into champagne on boats mode.. These grimey type of rappers struggled to hang on..
Tommy Hill was accused of snitching on The mob and they put a hit on him.

RIP

tuff crew from a different era. and I would say hilltop & 3x dope were bigger. EST had that crown.
ram squad was on top when they were poppin.

I didn't know the dru hill team was trying to get no question blackballed. that's messed up. the jodeci team should've blackballed dru hill then. chit.
which member was damon? the lead singer? I thought his death was just a rumor.

nah. ram squad was old school by the time the snitching thing went down. they were moreso mid-late '90s. the snitching stuff went down circa 02-04, iirc.

the snitching thing doesnt help, but nobody from their era really gets mentioned or gets any credit.
modern-day philly rap began with major figgas.

shoot, meek millz str8 jacked his name from a member of task force(later known as naam brigade). your average person that wasn't around for that era, has no clue that group existed.

Beans signing to Roc-a-fella has zero to do with Major Figgas or PMW (both on major labels with big budget albums) not blowing up

I didn't say that it did.

I was just responding to your initial comment, explaining why beans' name is connected to them. its not just cuz theyre from philly.

and there was nothing big budget about major figgas album breh.

The Neptunes didn't have much success in breaking new acts. Clipse is their biggest success with a new act, but even their first album got shelved. Kelis had a flop and an album only released outside of the U.S. before scoring with Tasty.

they were on RuffNation/Warner Bros. and had at least one big-budget video from that album. Learn up brah

NO JOKE.

they had ONE video. and it wasn't pushed like that. it was serviced to rap city. and that was it. no follow-up video or nothing.
nor was the promotion good.

same for no question, who were signed to ruff nation as well. at least they got a 2nd video on jam zone.

that's not big budget.

If you had any clue how much money such a video, plus production, editing, mixing, studio time etc costs, you would get it
