Serious question, is this subgenre of hip hop going to be the most popular form of hip hop in the future? It looks like it's heading in that direction :patrice: .

I don't see many of these young guys caring about lyrics like that, it seems having a good melody and sound is way more important.

I really hope not, but it’s definitely trending that way. I think the funniest thing is Carti is around the corner from 30 years old and he’s making music whose target demographic isn’t past 22 years old, and even that being generous. Same thing with Uzi. Them, Teezo, probably Ken Carson, K Suave, Trippie Redd, and a host of other are all making music for 13-22 year olds that walk around looking like the Hardy Boyz.

It’s what the kids are leaning into. Just look at how crazy these festival crowds go for Carti, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely. They got a chokehold on the kids we haven’t seen in a minute. They got them nikkas dressing like Blade man.

It’s kinda crazy that Ken and Destroy don’t have features on here

My music teacher once said "If you have to explain the merit of a structure using your feelings as a gauge, you don't understand structure at all". I don't think dude's merit is structure, pockets, flow or anything quantifiable in that sense. Youth culture has always had it's own champion,an artist that they feel is "theirs". The irony here is that the entirety of what we once described as youth sub culture is build by metrics, algorithm, marketing and consumer psychology, he's not exempt from the machinations. His greatest accomplishment in my opinion is having a fanbase that can't actually quantify the merit of his structure but understand he's creating moments that will be important to them. Explaining why you feel it's great sometimes defeats the purpose, like measuring an electron's actual position doesn't actually happen, your observation just shows probability.

The people who think this music is “trash” or a “troll” need to understand that albums like this are made 100% with the live show in mind. Not one musical decision is made without thinking how it will sound at a festival or in an arena or stadium.
I’m a fan of lyrical hip-hop and bars as much as the next person but you really want to convince a 17 year old that standing in a room with a few hundred dudes mean mugging each other at a Benny The Butcher show is a party?
I’m all for the 93rd crazy metaphor for loading a clip or paying the cheapest for a brick but sometimes fans want to have a good time. Even if you hate Travis Scott if you missed out on the Astroworld and Utopia tours or you haven’t seen Carti at a festival you’re missing out on a special level of energy.
Carti makes Travis Scott sound like 96 Nas. Rappers been doing live shows since the beginning of rap, you can have a good mix of songs on your album you want to ring off at a concert, it’s called balance . Dude is a joke of a rapper no need to make excuses.

Thats all he has live is energy. He hops around stage rapping 3% of his music and letting his band do the heavy lifting. I would be enraged if I paid for that :mjlol:
