Serious question, is this subgenre of hip hop going to be the most popular form of hip hop in the future? It looks like it's heading in that direction :patrice: .

I don't see many of these young guys caring about lyrics like that, it seems having a good melody and sound is way more important.
Carti ain’t even cutting edge like that anymore - he’s like an oldhead in this shyt rn tbh

Fukk no:mjlol: this shyt Carti doing been around for years at this point

Nikkas just being prisoners of the moment because Carti just put out an album that's poppin. Again lumping everyone into one ubiquitous category is outdated. Carti has had his fans and subgenre for a while y'all just weren't paying attention :manny: this is arguably a good thing if you expand your reasoning to the fact that subgenres in Hip hop exist

At the same time I gotta ask what you mean about lyrics, because we're not gonna pretend like nikkas didn't spend 2024 analyzing Kendrick and Drake lyrics down to molecule:mjlol: In fact, I haven't seen as much lyric analysis and breakdowns as i have in the last 5 years. Nikkas gotta stop acting like only one thing exists and that's the whole game

Also let's not get it fukked up. We're talking about music. Melody and sound has, and always will take priority over lyrics. We had melody before we had words. Nikkas don't worship Pac for his lyrics, they worship Pac because he was a sorcerer with the way he manipulated melody and sound through his lyrics

But even then the lyrics nikkas do exist. The problem is y'all want the lyrics nikkas to be pop stars and it don't work like that

It seems u a big fan of this shyt Carti doing. Im not some jaded old head who hates anything other than boom bap. I actually listen to more metal than rap nowadays :manny:

I just think he is very very lazy and uninspired lol. But he still capable of some keepers like hoodbyair. Love that shyt

Have u listened to Bladee - Cold Visions?

You would love that shyt if u like this

Them Drain Gang dudes are far more progressive and melodic in general and they actually perform their shyt lol :yeshrug:

Damn breh, I was just asking a question and I think you missed it. I am asking specifically will this subgenre be the dominant hip hop genre in the future.

There seems to be more Playboi Carti type rappers connected with the youth than rappers who have some sort of lyrics. I may be wrong but this is based on what I am seeing.

I'm not expecting lyrical miracle guys to be at the top because I know the general audience prefer melody and sound, shyt I do too, but it really do seems lyrics have taken a huge hit.

You bringing up Drake or Kendrick is irrelevant as I am obviously talking about days after they retire.
