You're not asking this question in good faith, and there's nothing that will convince you that it's good by any metric you're using
That said I will answer the question not to appease your made up standards, but because I've been meaning to discuss about Carti anyway
If you're listening to Carti for bars you're completely missing the point. There's a mood and atmosphere being conveyed explicitly. I don't know if you listen to anything besides rap but this shouldn't be a hard concept to understand in regards to music. Lyricism is not everything, and nikkas acting like it are annoying because they're using it as a marker of intelligence. It's not breh
I believe Carti's true superpower is his timing. There are nikkas that would kill to have the timing Playboi Carti has. This nikka's pockets are ridiculous. And it's easy to dismiss things like adlibs and background vocals but when you listen to all of the vocals being used on the songs there's a clear rhythm. It sounds silly and chaotic but none of it is done on accident. I don't even think Carti fans understand this but it's a large part of the "what is it? " factor. You have to listen to Carti like he's a part of the beat machine instead of trying to compare him to Sean Price or somethingCarti's vocals as a whole blend into the beats in a way most nikkas wish for. There's a reason Kendrick, another vocal scientist, likes this nikka
To the lyricism nikkas I always use songs like this
This song has 13 words total, repeated over and over and it's one of the greatest songs ever made. There's more than one way to skin a cat, and lyricism ain't everything as much as nikkas want it to be. Call Carti a trash rapper, that's fine I agreebut there's a reason he named his shyt I AM MUSIC and not I AM HIP HOP or I AM LYRICS. there's something else going on here
I think it's a mistake to make it as general as "nikkas like" one of my main issues with the stubborn older Hip Hop crowd is they still speak from the perspective of more ubiquitous eras. Hip Hop has sub genres now, that's all it is.Ok i had to give you rep for answering with a clear explanation. Preciate it!
What it sounds like to me is, ni99as like instrumentals now. Instrumentals with a hook and someone adlibbing. I guess in a way that is a return to the very early days of hip hop?
You actually made me rethink my position when I think of it like this: these YNs are making instrumental albums (or maybe there's a better term). I take back my stance that I wouldn't call it hip hop.
You're probably too young, but I really enjoyed the megamixxes that 2 Live Crew would do on every album. Where it was just the dj mixing a dope beat with cuts, adlibs, and a hook. No lyrics...it was just a vibe.

I won't argue with him having great engineers but having great engineers for damn near a decade ain't all breh. I've had this view for yearsit's crazy because the shyte you love about son is due to the folks behind the screens
it becomes more apparent when you see the recording sessions
that nikka be high & incoherent babbling in front a microphone
then whoever is engineering & producing the session makes something out of all that
it goes next level now these nikkas are not even recording it's ai models trained off their vocals
HA

I don't entertain them nikkas, and y'all shouldn't eitherRespectable post.
But this right here, is my general grip with hoity toity, music theory tastemaker ass fakkits. Is that many of them don't even like Hip Hop/Rap and wouldn't be listening to it if it weren't so prevelent.
So any time something like this drops that demphasizes the rap, they rush to champion it and shift the 'overton window' to encourage trancending rap.

This was the first time I really stopped and said "This nikkas timing is crazy"
Like why did he start the verse when he did and not 2 seconds earlier? Listen to the way the adlibs lay in the beat. You ever have your clothes sitting just right and you're looking at that shyt in the mirror likeThat's what that shyt sounds like. Keef is another nikka with great timing (and Carti's father honestly)
This was another one
Again why start the verse then? The adlibs harmonizing with each other
I wont discount studio magic, but I won't go as far to let it undermine his greatest attribute. Breh knows what he's doing

that shyte is sequenced in program
these nikkas are not displaying some sort of vocal jazz level of chops & timing
as i said the shyte is revealed when you see these nikkas live recording sessions
or just peep how they cannot perform any of that shyte live
like all your genius musical talent dissappears as soon as it's time to perform¿
nikkas is 99.9% artificial fast food musicians

I didn't I was just making a point that's one of my favorite "non lyrical" songsBro why you comparing Carti to Beatles![]()
microwave music has it's placeeven tho I fw some carti tracks heavily its hard to respect him musically at the same time. Like you said its all smokes and mirrors from the dudes in the stu with him. nikka even allegedly using AI now
Lets not even get into his live "performances"
he is a prime case study in hypebeasts and cult of personality because that nikka is like legit top 5 worst performer I've seen in any genre.
