Yeah, I know, it's supid as hell.

We're all giving our impressions of the game from the beta that bungie put out. But only positive impressions are valid since the game is not out yet :stopitslime:
Anybody can play the game and tell you what the gameplay is like. The gameplay isn't going to suddenly be completely different come retail release. The controls, the physics, the gun handling and other important factors are most likely going to be exactly the same. Enemy encounters, level design, mission variety, story dialogue and presentation still have stuff yet to be seen.

There's guns, powers, and physics yet to be seen as well :stopitslime:

And peter dinklage, those dumb ass "protect the ghost" portions. Blinking out of the missions, and the overall presentation of the story will not change either.

You are looking at "story" in the literal sense of the word. When people refer to the "story" in a game it encompasses so much more than just the narrative.

For example people praise TLOU for its story, but if that same story was told through short disjointed missions, with mission select screens Inbetween, no cool cutcenes/set pieces and the shytiest video game voice actor ever delivering the gist of he story. People would say that story sucks too

The moment to moment gameplay is not shallow. The narrative and the way the missions are set up is. The game just blinks you back to your "ship"(loading screen) after each mission even if the next mission is on the same planet. There's no story transition between missions, just your ghost talking to you. Enemies respawn in the exact same location no matter if you are on a mission or not. The "bosses" don't add any additional challenge of variety, they just have larger health bars.

The opening scene was fine, but nowhere near as good as most other FPS campaigns. And I've been playing games long enough that I know where a game is headed from playing the first couple missions. Not to say that I can give a full verdict or predict the story, but you can definitely tell how the story will be presented and how the gameplay will pan out. If you couldn't there would be no need for demos.

people praise the story of tlou cause it's a great story...the gameplay, presentation, etc. help, but the story itself is just fukking amazing....it's a reason people are praising a live show/reading of the story that was done...

so you didnt get cutscenes in your missions? i did, and that helped progress the story and make it not seem as shallow as you're describing...it wasnt just ghost, mission, ghost, mission. etc....the bosses didnt add variety to gameplay? lol aight man....

lol whatever man....you trying to beat around the bush about it, but you are giving a full verdict on the game...no need to bullshyt about it....also, i know you arent comparing a demo to a beta....those are 2 different things, that serve 2 different purposes....

Why don't you take offense to people saying the gameplay/weapons are good?

People have not played with all the guns or shot all the enemies so how can they claim they gameplay is fun?

lol come on man...you're better than this....but i'm at work, passing the time, so i'll play along:

commenting on gameplay/weapons is different than commenting on the story...you can get a great feel/understanding of the gameplay/weapons in a beta even if you dont try all the weapons, fought all the enemies, etc....you cant do the same with the story cause you dont get enough of the story...

by the way: i dont offense to yall disliking the game, yall only play games for yall, like i only play for me....i just dont think you can judge the story of the retail game like some of yall are doing based off a beta...cause we didnt get enough of the story to actually judge....

As I said if the story was ruined by poor production people wouldn't think of it so fondly.

Not trying to beat around anything and not trying to give a full verdict on the game. The beta showed exactly what kind of game it is. It's an MMO, and by nature MMO's can't have a strong focused narrative. It's just how it is. Some people like that type of game some dont.

i havent ignored it, you just werent the only one talking about the story though....but i guess you speaking for everyone

lol if you say so man...presentation helps, so do other things, but the story doesnt equal those things...you trying to put all those things under the story umbrella as if they are one, and they arent.....it's a reason people were able to have a live show of the story and people praised it....

couple i got that i remember off hand: meeting the speaker and being followed by a guardian...

couple different ways: how we attacked things (as a group/1 by 1); where people attacked from (high/low ground; close/far)....

again: the type of game, the gameplay, mechanics, etc.; doesnt equal the story of the game....like i said above: you trying to put all these differet things under a story umbrella, and it doesnt work like that.....cause my initial post was commenting on how some were talking about the story of the game, not all the other things you want to include...
