ELI5 how AI is harmful to the environment, technologically speaking it is the next step in computational engineering. We would have arrived to this point sooner or later. It was only a matter of time. I’m surprised we got to it as fast as we did in the infant stages. Your sentiments echo exactly what ppl said about the internet in the early 80s
Bruh, go look up Memphis

Crypto and all that shyt is harmful too

I figured this was the guy you were talking about before entering this thread. I just can’t watch any of those talking head TikTok videos. Just can’t sit through them

You just gonna shrug and go that dont count, or say so do a bunch of other technologies

I have a problem with it when ppl are using AI for shyt they can easily do themselves

It doesn't matter what I think, it's still going to be used

But facts are the facts

I don't see a problem with this outside of it encouraging anti-social behavior. A large part of political/social messaging involves collaborating with others to share ideas, perspectives and solutions.

Also we, nearly every industry is moving in the AI direction. If you use Microsoft365, copilot can adapt to your writing style. I see and utilize it on my job, occasionally. I won't say we should be using AI to generate content for us ......because its terrible at that. AI will make up shyt to satisfy your prompt, sometimes. But AI is a great outlier, spell checker, and it can rewrite your docs to match whatever tone you're looking for.

It's extremely, extremely energy intensive. And it pollutes tremendously. It's even worse than Bitcoin mining.

Check out the stuff that elon's grok AI is doing in Tennessee to black neighborhoods. The fumes from the servers and processors are literally choking out whole communities and causing cancer. And this ignores the climate effect on the planet of those fumes, and the drain on the communal grid that increases energy prices for normal people and institutions like hospitals. There's also no incentive for these tech corporations to use green energy like solar or hydro because it would increase the overall cost of processing, decreasing profits.

And tech moves to remedy it are even worse for the environment. A few of them have floated the idea of building nuclear reactors. On the surface this sounds like a good idea because they would have their own energy, until you realize how harmful it is to African, and native American populations when uranium is mined out of the ground and it poisons waterways, water basins, crops, and workers.

So unless these companies wanted to build their own solar farms at their own expense, extremely far away from population centers AI is a net negative because the same functions could have been done hundreds of times cheaper and cleaner with a Google search. And there is no incentive to do any of these things because it would exponentially increase the cost of every single node in an AI model

It completely detracts from him for me personally, I thought it was all (or at least what I'd seen) from a real observant breh that knew how to get his shyt across. AI parts just diminish that

Like a lot of us understand shyt on a deeper level than most just by being Black in America, but he covered a LOT of thoughts even shyt I've thought for 2 secs then dismissed

What is the fukking appeal of tiktok? It's bunch of stolen content and AI videos of fake ass buildings exploding and shyt like that. It's a shame some good pages get silenced by meta/twitter or whatever and they most likely have to resort to places like tiktok.

short videos that usually get to the point of the content you're interested in and show your additional content thats relevant to your interests. need a quick life hack, cleaning hack or how method to get a broken key out of a door lock, tiktok is quick and to the point.

Unfortunately, this is the beginning of a new normal. Big tech companies are leaning into AI HARD, by asking their employees to embed it within performance review goals and use it to a daily basis.

Yeah I'm annoyed by how people are using AI to sound smarter than they are actually. Like it has been mentioned, people now are to lazy to do the research and put it in their own words.

For a example, at work the supervisors to come up with a proposal to make or job more efficient. I was partnered up with another supervisor who isn't that sharp. He came in with a detail proposal that I could tell was AI from the jump. It was too long and mentioned nothing specific about our job.

I tried to use ChapGPT once to help come up with a presentation about a work topic. But like I mentioned, it was over complicated and not specific to what I was looking for. So I just did like I always do, brainstormed and came up with my own idea.

you can actually instruct the output to be less or more complex or tailor it for a specific audience with a certain level of knowledge or lack of knowledge.

This shyt is asinine and typical of people looking for a reason to tear down other folk. Unless he was spewing bullshyt this is akin to get your panties in a bunch because somebody used spell check.........and yes it really is the same thing at this point........the logical evolution of spelling and grammar checking
