More of an 20th century American take than a hot one. Its a level of smugness that's commonly found in first world countries, in this point in history.

He mostly has a very particular idea of what "broke" means. What I considered broke 10 years ago is different from what I believe it is now.

There is no way around it. Any hardworking person will not be broke. Waaay too many avenues to make money to be broke. Everyone has the internet and there's all types of certs available for everybody. There is also all kinds of information, instructional videos, and free classes to learn a new skill. You can learn almost anything on YouTube. There is just no excuse to be BROKE

I grew up hood adjacent. We weren't in the hood or the projects but I had fam there. I was the kid in a standard apartment complex hanging out with my cousins in the hood. Now my mom, she grew up there and got out by joining the military. After that it was leveling up: 1 br apartment, 2 br apartment, townhome, duplex, house.

One thing I noticed growing up were some of my family were content and happy in the hood and made no effort to improve their circumstance. No hustler mentality, no school, no plans. Just living hand to mouth check to check.
Then I saw other family members also in the hood but strived. Went to school, whatever job they could get. Stacked whatever little paper they could. Side hustles. Found a niche and started a business (auto parts, pastries, flower arrangements, tax preparation).

Only had one uncle who went the street route. In and out of prison, the usual career criminal story. Eventually he got killed beefing over a girl.

I say all that to say from my experience poverty isn't a choice but a mentality, a way of life. I saw with my own eyes aunts and cousins living and dying on the same corner while others did whatever they could to get out.

People wanna mythologize white folk like they're these industrious beings capable of just gettin out the mud lmao.
:russ: This is the shyt that wilds me out. Like, have anyone worked with them? They’re mid as fukk across damn near every matrix. It’s rare to meet a cac with a sense of ambition and grit about them. Like, for every 10 black person who’s grinding, there’s one of them.

But yeah, a simple choice. :mjlol:

It is…:unimpressed:

When I was fukked up, it was my fault. You have warehouses out here paying $20/hour and you can work as many hours as you want.
Yeah and tax your body. See long term warehouse workers...their bodies show the damage. That work should be a stepping stone not the destination.

A better argument for this thread would have been that there is actually a culture to poverty. One that people become entrenched in from ignorance, lack of financial literacy and a safety net.

If you grew up poor chances are you were taught how to survive not really live. You got broke habits and and don't take the RIGHT risks with money. Like you might buy designer clothes but not invest that same dough or save it. You don't take educated financial risks but will gamble on a get rich quick scheme. Look who they market all them to. The pyramid schemes, the people selling courses the nft scramble. It is all for speculative people with a lil money but not for people who know good investments.

I grew up in poverty but I never considered myself poor ever. My self value and dignity always. Intact. Always had things I wouldn't do for money and I never let my origin cap my goals. A lot of people raised in poverty come out of it with some level of disillusionment with society or a fukked up self image, trauma... Cuz their value of themselves has been affected by the perception that self worth was tied to money. That's why broke people prioritize stunting on each other. Goods are a badge of honor and you can feel good so long as you ain't as fukked up as that person over there. So you display your perceived worth on your person. Rarely do people escape the bottom without some kind of PTSD.

When brehs in general stop caring about what brands you wear to school and car you drive it will be a clear sign that we have Black people who have been many generations removed from poverty. These things matter less are signs to people who can actually afford them.

In short the experience, the trauma and the conditioning of poverty is deep and without care it becomes culture. Dudes in here saying just get a job. You might be surprised that there are people out here who it never occurs to actually actively pursue employment or they just don't see it as a realistic option because they are so pressed to take the shortest road to financial freedom. So pressed by having lived in poverty that they can't wait to flourish.

I have and Poor choices (which is a choice) would be the only reason for you to be broke
How do you account for the immigrants who send their best over here and majority of them still fail to break through? It’s beyond just a simple choice and I think you know that.

We're looking at aggregate data. Millions of people. Just about anywhere you go in the world higher poverty rate correlates with a higher birthrate. That isn't a coincidence and expecting black Americans to be immune from that phenomenon isn't helpful.
But we have the highest out of wedlock rates, which doesn’t help the situation.

Do you believe capitalism necessitates there be winners & losers/rich & poor?

You ain't lying. It's the privilege of mediocrity. While there are some brilliant white minds (as with any race), there aint a damn thing exceptional about them. I can't believe so-called black posters believe that shyt. A truly equitable society free of racism would allow for black people to be AVERAGE but still live stable lives. I hope that makes sense and doesn't read like I'm discouraging black excellence.

Take is a bit simplistic. The fact is sometimes, life happens. You can do everything right, and things still go wrong. You can do everything wrong, and things go right, that’s the way of the universe, unpredictable. However, it does make sense to try and mollify the wrong as much as we can by doing the right.

That said. When things are going badly, and you’re in that state of free fall. You can choose to surrender all hope to gravity and keep on falling until you hit the bottom, or you can acknowledge the situation for what it is, and take a risk by sticking out your arm, and hoping you catch a branch. That’s just life, bad things happen, you’re put in unfavorable positions. Quite often, you can’t control those outcomes, but you have to at least try something to get out of that, and not completely surrender to the fates

Easiest way to make money online is to get on a monetized platfrom and proceed to say something controversial and wrong. Folks will share your shyt just to tell others how wrong they think you are. People are less likely to share and advertise something they agree with.
