Nobody ever said Kanan was a genius and mastermind. The only thing his character did successfully was manipulate a sheltered teenager. People got in their heads that he was some all-knowing kingpin. Maybe the narrative all along is that he was always a lil' on the dumb side, but grew up reckless and violent. He's been making dumb and misguided decisions from day 1, and even in the OG Power wasn't the smartest MF in the world. The night he died was because he got outsmarted by a kid and decided to go out in a blaze of glory.

Shawn’s death really kickstarted Tariq becoming overly inquisitive. He felt like he was getting vague answers about his death from his parents considering that Shawn was like a big brother to him. I believe that Ghost and Tasha told him that Shawn died over hood shyt, or implied it to a degree. Tasha mentioned that they all were from the same hood and told Tariq he should never go there, practically increasing his curiosity even further.

Like I said, in the OG Power, the only thing he did successfully was manipulate a sheltered teenager and kill vulnerable people... they didn't really make him out to be anything more than that. Whenever he dealt with people on his wavelength, he was outmatched, and Jukebox was still crazier and more ruthless than him. Remember, SHE was the one who created that plan to kill Tariq, that wasn't his original plan- that's why he killed her. He didn't kill Tariq and didn't even end up killing Ghost, which was what he wanted to do all along.

I can admit kanan was smarter than we give him credit for but he was a dude out for revenge that had a habit of killing anyone who wasn’t useful or would catch him up, the fact that he was 50 character was the only reason the nikka had 9 lives
