They work well, but I would recommend just getting a decent router instead.


I got a Linksys 1200ac that I'm happy with, but a 1900 or 3200, would be better and more future proof if you don't mind spending ~$220

I've gone through too many cheap shytty routers so I'm definitely down to spend some coin for something that'll last. I've been thinking about buying this amplifi router, but then I heard that powerline adapters are better.

I use them just because it's cheaper than trying to route cable runs into my living room.

They work great for my setup. Always go hard-wired over wireless if you can.

But they're also highly dependent on the quality of your electrical wires right?

Yeah, you also have to make sure that they're all connected to the same electrical circuit. That's why I went the router route.

I tried to use them but my house has old wiring. The connection would drop for no reason. Wound up getting a better router and running Ethernet cable to put it in a good location.

I ran a few ethernet cables under my house using the crawlspace in addition to my router.

My story with powerlines have been pretty weird.

My house was built in 2004 so I don't know what's going on the wiring. The Powerline is only decent when I'm using them in the same room, once the signal passes walls that's when everything gets fukked. speeds go down to like 6 kbps, that's dialup era.

I just use the modem, which has built in wi fi. bridge my good N66U asus router with the modem's hidden 5ghz band and now my PS4 (PS4 ethernet into the N66U which is connected to the modem's 5ghz hidden wifi) is getting 100 mbps down and 10 mbps up like what I'm paying for.

I'm sticking with Wi-Fi because I have a really good router and the Asus N66U saved me from punching a hole in the wall in frustration. Go with Wi-Fi if you have good equipment, I recommend those $100 ASUS routers, if not, just run the ethernet cables along your walls like a real G and go wired.

Got an Asus RT68p wireless AC router, PowerLine adapter , and WiFi extender at the crib

Get a good router. Then get a powerline adapter and another decent router to use as an access point/repeater in another area of your home. Then you'll be straight.

Looks like they got you covered in this thread. Power lines are dope. I used one for a while and it worked really well. You just need to make sure the outlets are on the same circuit or else it won't work. It's common sense but often overlooked.

i get them free at work. they seem to work well as long as you dont get the old cheap ones

How do you know if the outlets are on the same circuit?

Find your circuit breaker box and shut each fuse off one at a time. See which areas/outlets are affected.
