Ehh, I think that was a good move for Orlando in regards to addressing needs and fit, but it was a lot of capital for that level of player. Draft picks still matter because it's the most inexpressive way to fill gaps and find talent that exceeds their cost, so just trading a bunch away isn't nothing to scoff at. I also don't think Durant going to a team like the heat is a major that either. Any team that had to sacrifice depth to get an aging star is already operating at a deficit, especially if they were just a fringe playoff team in the first place. Orlando is the rare young team that can kinda afford to make a move like this because they knocked 2 of their draft picks out the park possibly founf their 2 foundational players while still having a bunch of youth filling out their roster.
I don't think it's panic time because of this Orlando move. I still like the idea of them looking to improve at the margins, seeing what this team looks like with Ivey back and getting THJ's minutes and then looking at the landscape of the league and their place in it heading into the trade deadline. I don't think they need to do anything rash yet. That's that goofy sports talk radio approach that gets teams stuck in really difficult positions, ie. Blake Griffin. Stay as flexible as possible while you figure wtf you actually have first.
