I don't consider myself a sentimental person but I remember seeing that live and being completely awe struck and near tears at the spectacle. Beyond the sadness of the situation (loss of life, hate crime, etc) I felt even worse because I knew that this was something my grandparents would have immediately called me about. All my grandparents would watch the news a lot (when they weren't watching soap operas in the case of my grandparents, or the history channel in the case of my grandad). And from 2008 until the day each of them passed they'd call asking if I thought Barack or The President (they almost never said "President Obama") was gonna do such and such, or complain about hearing a republican talking bad about him, or mention a friend who had met him, or did you see what Michelle was wearing etc, or "you ever think of going into politics like Barack?" etc etc lol.
