i guess so but even then, that's the same year that Big Pun dropped and there's no way you're telling me DMX was close to the level as Pun.

Not to mention pun's debut having more replay value than DMX's debut TO THIS DAY.

As much as I love Pun, he never was the artist that DMX was during the late 90's. He was more lyrically complex, but DMX definitely was on another level.

i guess i just never been a fan of DMX's beat selection. Always though it was below average outside of the singles.

He's hype but it takes more that to get me intrigued for an extended period of time. I'm glad DMX blew up though, as the game was getting crazy soft at the time.

X wasn't just real hype. He was a very underrated lyricist as well. And Pun never showed the storytelling acumen Dog did also. And neither Pun or X were really known for their beat selection. And let's not forget that Pun second album was hugely disappointing. X in his prime > Pun. And I regard Pun highly.

like x but nah lyrically pun would rap circles around x imo.
Yeah I always thought Pun was much better than X. Lyrically, flow wise, content, album wise too. Not taking away anything from X who I think is cool but Pun was an elite all time rapper to me. I think Capital Punishment can compete with pretty much any Hip Hop album too.

I hold Pun's snorts and gasps for breath against him. Vocally a step behind X, and didn't go as deep with his concepts or subject matter. He is an elite level lyricist and spitter though.

I love Pun but you trying to say X wasn't on his level:dahell:

X dropped It's Dark and Hell Is Hot and Flesh of My Flesh, Blood of My Blood in 98. He was the total opposite of what Bad Boy and Jay-Z were dropping (shiny suit era) and kept it gritty and street. Love Pun but for that year belonged to Earl.

Yeah Swizz Beats is trash but look at the talent rapping over it at the time.

they arent even the same type of rappers but as an overall artist Lupe is better... The cool alone is better sonically and concept wise than anything dmx has put out..
