The paperwork the amount of HR related paperwork you have to do to be a manager. My buddy is a manager and he always tells me how shytty it is, the meetings he has to attend. I go in around nine and leave early, he can't do the same. Oh and the pay? I'm about at the same salary level without the headaches. I'll keep my position.

I work in the clinical research industry, and the field is heavily populated with females. That right there turned me off from wanting to aspire to any sort of managerial level. Dude who was my line manager at my last job was new to the role, and he pissed off quite a few females simply because he wasn't trying to listen to the nonsense that they were trying to approach him with; beef with other females, needing to leave early for whatever reason, crap like that. Then if he would deny one (because she was overall lazy) and give in to another (cause she actually worked), then here come rumors of him trying to get in her pants. The amount of handholding you need to do with some folks is enough of a turn off for me, not to mention the political games that have to be played.

This thread isn't about chasing titles or money but more about work ethic and belief systems. I known ppl who rise to the top on in corporate them went on to be successful entrepreneurs, I know ppl who came out of high school with natural entrepreneurial spirit who became successful. But you rarely see shytty unmotivated employees go on to launch successful businesses.
i hear on u that.

1. I don't have the right business friends/associates.

2. Once I decided to be an entrepreneur, I all but ceased effort to advance as an employee. It became a benefit as I have/had time to research, plan & work for my business.

My personality kinda hold me back, I am quiet and do my work and like to focus more on what im doing....instead of getting involved in work politics, worrying about what everyone else is doing, and I'm not a hood niqqa but im not a c00n either. I don't try to act white or change my behavior to appeal to more whites.

I lack the motivation and Im also working for a govt contractor and trying to get on with a civilian job. Once I get on (hopefully), then I will work hard to move up the GS rank and hopefully be a manager one day.

I think successful educated bruhs and bruhettes should work more to mentor younger black professionals and instill in them what they need to do to move up and try to provide them with opportunities.

I was a manager once and I hated watching over lazy ass people. All coming to me with these problems they could deal with themselves but then you realize... they can't deal with it so you have to carry that shyt for them along with your own shyt. They'll never be on a competent level either. There's more below average people out there than average and above. I had to spent my days trying to keep them from drowning.

Oh and the constant calling, no matter the time of day.

Nah :donotlike: Some are built for that, I'm not one of them.
That's more of a supervisor role. I'm talking about Management that hires his/her own talent/team. If they make your job harder then they're not a good fit for the position and they gotta go.

Because I'm black what the hell you think. Also I have male bosses, I hate that shyt. I notice I tend to land a job or get promoted when a female is in charge or interviews me.

I don't really give a fukk about a company that isn't my own. I rather work some where easy and almost stress free/mediocre and invest that money into my own business venture.

To all that say it's not worth the hassle, what about when you are working for somebody younger than you and you know more than them but you have to take orders from them.

Yeah, I want to move up to be in leadership and make more money. I also just want to be in role that commands respect and where I'm involved on the big decisions being made. I'm also looking for a level of autonomy that I don't have right now, with my boss looking over my shoulder every day.

I am a senior manager. I'm sitting in the middle of a warehouse that I leased and currently that's currently under tenant improvements as I type this.
