Manager? I don't want to manage people
Director? See above
CEO? Good question.

Honestly, aint nobody over me that has my complexion. I have worked at many companies and none of the CEOs, directors or upper managment was black. I can't count on one hand the amount of black managers I've worked with.

I mean, I'm not going to blame anything but I don't see folk that look like me in these positions so maybe those roles are not meant for me. :yeshrug:

Part of it is I don't want to be in management. No sour grapes... I don't want to manage people. I am an IC analyst type.

Part of it is I'm not that ambitious or savvy. I am happy to admit it. Not everyone can make it to the top. But I do what I have to do to move ahead and make things happen the way I want them to.

If I could start all over, I don't think I would have become an engineer. I'm good at it, but I don't enjoy it anymore. I should have been some kind of analyst. That's the other thing.... it takes time to realize what you want out of life. I'm in a completely different place now than I was in college. What I wanted back then I hate now. I couldn't have dreamed of going the direction I am headed because I didn't know. So I wouldn't feel bad for not being where you thought you would be.

Mainly approve business credit lines in the steel industry. Accounts receivable, calling companies to get payment. Filling lawsuits against non-payers, bankruptcy claims etc. Got a degree in Accounting but anybody could do this job.
Do you enjoy this?

1. Don't want to be because of meetings all damn day
2. See #1
3. Already make close to director bread without being one. I like personal interaction with people not conference calls all damn day.

People don't realize the sacrifice it takes to get to the top either. Is a title worth missing time with your family? Your health? Having your work consume your life? What good is a title and money if it doesn't enable you to live the life you want? The people who really make it to those positions are the people who really want it. NOT wanting it is OK.

Several reasons for me:
-I don't have a "powerful social circle" to network.
-The location I am in currently is small, zero opportunities unless you work in education and healthcare (I'm in neither field), and it just sucks here.
-Employers won't give me a chance, but tell you have to have management's experience. Okay, I understand that, but HOW are you supposed to get that experience without a job first? I have the job experience, education, and skillset, so what's the problem? I asked every employer why they didn't hire me so I know what to fix for future job positions and none can give me a logical answer.
-I don't mean to be "that person," but racism plays a huge factor as well. Society doesn't not like to see Black people in positions in power. Just the truth.
-Economic hardships...I can't change the economy, just trying to survive it. That's out of anybody's control.
-I have horrible luck in general.
