The Xbox 360 did good because the home brew scene of Mods teamed up with Microsoft over the Xbox media hub phase, which Microsoft used a media center which was from Xbmc which is now Kodi... I hear what your saying about the golden years of Xbox, but let me tell u that’s what it was a golden era between transitions.. We’re now in a stage of more polished gaming experiences beyond just the regular game system and media hub stages.. Sony furfills our Vision with the future .. Sony faces obstacles in pricing PlayStation 5

The Sony PlayStation 5 has harbored many unknowns since its release date was announced in October. One of the biggest questions is price, and a new report gives some insight into how much the console might cost.

The PS5 has a manufacturing cost of $450, Bloomberg reported Thursday. One of the factors in the cost is the supply of DRAM and NAND flash memory used in smartphones, including the Samsung Galaxy S20 unveiled this week. The coronavirus outbreak has yet to impact PS5 production, according to the report.

The next Sony game console is expected to debut in late 2020.

Selling a new console at a loss would be nothing new for Sony. Previous PlayStations featured a price tag that was smaller than the hardware cost to manufacture. The PS4, for example, sold for $399 but cost $450 to build. The PS2 and PS3 were also sold at a loss when they launched.

Sony's strategy is to sell its console for a competitive price to build a userbase that enables it to make profits from games, subscriptions, accessories and other revenue tied to the PlayStation system. As for the next generation of consoles, Sony's pricing strategy will likely depend on the price Microsoft sets for its Xbox Series X.

Sony didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.
