It was crazy. He went from literally running music to being a punchline without doing anything. Could argue that the Shyne shooting saved his reputation in a way by being a distraction...

I think the let the lox go campaign and ruff ryders movement hurt puff street brand a bit too, when you add mase retiring that was tough to come back on, but he did it

Sean John was the hottest shyt in the streets 98-99. Those denim outfits/velours had dudes cursing Puffy’s name and at the same time ready to cut their mother to get an outfit of his

according to Puff himself Black Rob WHOA saved Bad Boy
Definitely. Whoa is one of the GOAT singles...

One thing I'll always give Puff credit for is his unorthodox strategy. Even tho he's known as the super commercial shiny suit guy, Bad Boy's rap roster was mainly hardcore, unmarketable lyricists. But he got hits out of them. He could have signed all Mase types if he wanted to...

Forever is a dope album, and the Shyne/Puff saga is one of hip hops greatest and most tragic.

The bubble burst for Puff, largely because he doubled down again and again on the 80's stuff, and the game changed from 98-99, with Jay and X, growing over Swizz production. Personally, I love that era, and 8th grade feel of Forever, in all it;s grandiose madness. Plus, Shyne was my favorite rapper for a few years, when I first heard him on Total "Sitting Home" remix, plus 112 Anywhere Remix, and Reverse.

The "Best Friend" song and video is Puff at his absolute most over the top.

"Satisfy You" was a song I still love, and used to watch on BET before school, in the mornings. Aired with "Until We Rich", "4 Da Fam"

"Do You Like It...Do You Want It" is a slightly overcooked classic, that I used to have on a homemade mixtape in a cassette player. Motivating.

"Journey Through The Life" is a classic, Nas and his Escobar persona, coming apart at the seams, in a grisly and paranoid depiction of life on the edge of destruction. Beanie Sigel with the grimy bars of blocks and glocks, when people used to clown that flow.
