i refuse to conform
no ocean, my heart wants to say Kane but my head says Ra....Then I listen to this:

Eric B & Rakim - Follow The Leader - YouTube

Stop at the hook. Now you tell me whats fckin with that?:stopitslime:
Now that's dictation, proceeding to my innovation
Not like the other MC's, who are an imitation
Or an animation, a cartoon to me
But when I'm finished, I'm sure that you are soon to see
Reality, my secret technique
Because I always speak with mentality
I put my title in your face, dare you to base
And if you try and come get it, yo I'mma show you who's with it

Hm...both of these guys are shoe-in GOAT contenders for sure. But I dunnno, they were on par lyrically and flow wise IMO. I would just say that, BDK's mic presence and charisma was in a whole other league...however, Rakim just had that sheer lyrical prowess and flow and monotone cadence that made him a monster as well.

I dunno it's hard...I love the both of them for what they did. BDK had the swag (Not saying that he wasn't nice lyrically either, just more pointing out his greatest strength), and Rakim was the blueprint for the modern MC in terms of their pen game.

Argghhhh I can't choose :sadbron:

They are two different emcees.

They are GODS of Hip-Hop in their own rights.

Let them stand next to each other instead against each other.

I won't even debate, there is no need.

For me its impossible to qualify that type of statement, shyts just preference, the main dudes from that time, Cool J, G Rap, BDK and Rakim was all complete emcees...

who was best...

too subjective for me....

Peace.

agreed, too subjective because they all were so great. G Rap is my all ATF. Ra was the GOAT. Kane was a battle rapper with a deal, not sure anyone was more braggadocios than him, he was like a much more relentless and street edged update to LL...who has to be mentioned in this convo as well. Kris was the epitome and embodiment of MCeeing and Hip Hop.

I think Kane would have demolished Ra in a battle. KRS too. Rakim is a prototype of a sort, but his music never struck me as versatile. Matter fact, one way to illustrate it is by looking at Quik and Eiht's battle which Quik won hands down. I'm a bigger Eiht stan than a Quik stan, but the way Quik freely shytted on Eiht during Dollars & Sense put a spotlight on Eiht's limitations. Quik came off on that track like he was having a blast with it. It was fun to him. All of Eiht's shots at Quik though, were typical threatening sh1t. I couldn't imagine Eiht having fun and be freewilled on a diss towards anybody.

Same thing with Rakim. Kane would have a field day using humour, wit, swag, and style on Rakim. He'd ride whatever production was afforded him and have a joint full of quotables. I can't see Rakim doing the same thing. Rakim was great going at imaginary emcees like the Terminator, but if he were to do the same thing with an actual battle ready emcee like a Kane or KRS, he'd get roasted.

I always like Rakim most because he didn't dance and pose in Play Girl.. He was just a pure emcee.. I always felt Kane was more for the females

Ra would not get roasted and he went at real emcees all the time including Kane. But I kind of understand what you're trying to say as far as a using humor and punch line in a live setting.

That type of statement,...
Can only be spoken, from a true sellout biter toy wack nikka.

More proof of the fraud that is the wackness of the clipse.
The only respect they get is bought from the marketing company.
That worked up with atmosphere.
I keep telling y'all to stop believe'n!
these weak ass ho ass sellout nikkas.
Plus, the payola.
They use to attempt to fool you.
This is the same wackness that slauhterhosue was talembout.
When, Charles Hamilton smack cluck ass exposed them.
Only slaughterhouse could get exposed culturally by a fiend.
That is how stoopid and wack them and pusha t are.
Ol sell ya soul for a dollar face ass nikkaz.

lyrically rakim would murk kane only thing kane had was punchlines that is it

but rakim had the complex rhyme patterns metaphors wordplay etc

Massage 'n' melodies
Might go right through
Simultaneously like an Uzi
Nothin' can bruise me
Lyrics let up when lady say don't lose me
So re-load quickly
And you better hit me
While I'm lettin' this fifi get wit me
You steppin' with .007
Better make it snappy
No time to do your hair, baby
Brothers are bustin' at me
Beats and bullets pass me
None on target
They want the R hit
But watch the god get
Quicker, the tongue is the trigger
'Cause I'm real fast
Let off some rhythm at 'em
Let 'em feel the blast
Penetrate at a crazy rate
This ain't no .38
Hit 'em at point blank range
And watch 'em radiate
Runnin' out of ammunition
I'm done wit' em
You ask me how I did 'em
I let the rhythm hit 'em

Disclaimer: I think Ronnie got issues with the whole 'rhyme scheme' stuff...

But that verse: Whew!

There is NO ONE currently on the scene that has this level of skill being shown...

Makes me feel bad for you yungins.....

All that shyt,..
Chu talembout is some bullshyt.
If Kane was ready and could serve ra.

He would have done it back in the day.
When he needed to lolligag and posse up with the other juice crew members.
To try to ridicule ra,...
Then ra had to show and prove and shut them nikkas all the way up, b.
Stop playing and real talk,...

Culturally, skillwise and track record wise.
Bdk ain't on no day could see rakim ever in his life.
Only nikkas thinking that is some toy ass nikkas.
Who do not know the history, and discography of both artist and culture of hiphop.
As real talk,...
If Kane was so dope, as a versatile artist, lady's man.
Why does he have no actual culturally accepted classic girl record.
on the level or strength of Ra, at all.
Kane has, no mahogany's, know what's on ya mind,at all.
Nor, was he capable of making them over the duration of his career.
As he lacked the consistency or technical skilled rubric and dedication to the culture, and preservation of emcee'n as ra.
On no day will ra be challenged by kane, nikka!

Get real, b!

Kane is the most hurtful turncoat sellout in the history of rap.
The only reason he gets a pass is because he was so good.
People would like to see him atone for his past and get it together and rekindle what he had.
Yet, all the time ra consistently spit and never sold out or fell off skillwise.
Kane was on complete bullshyt.
Kane had more than a decade plus of bullshyt garbage.
He did not re-write himself fully in the beginning stages till mackula.
Then he fell off again, and we had to wait till platinum plus to the man and icon era.
for him to get his shyt together.
nikka,..please...
Kill it with that kane is on ra's level, shyt...

THe separation and gap between kane [tied with ll at three] and ra at two and three all time.
Is a huge wall of china slash grand canyon vast depth distance apart.

Kane had to hide his sneak disses to Ra way in raps of female mc's, that's how vicious the God was on the mic.

Kane had flow and lyrics for days but he was in no way fukking with the R.
