Quake vs Unreal Tournament: what was the best OG FPS MP?

if you're basing this off the OG Quake 3 and the OG Unreal Tournament both of which I played heavy. Then I have to give the ever so slight edge to Unreal Tournament. Shyt had better guns, better maps, better graphics, but Quake did have faster gameplay and was easier to mod. That being said Unreal has lasted the test of time.

gotta go with unreal tournament99, assault mode and ctf was just too much piff,:banderas: and with all the user created content . But Quake is a great game in its own right you couldn't go wrong with either. quake freeze tag and quake fortress :banderas:

You know you wouldn't have Unreal if it wasn't for Quake. I never looked at the stats, but if the Unreal engine is more popular its because Epic really supported their engine. Id software just wanted to make an engine for their games and then license it to companies, but they didn't want to help companies understand it after giving it to them.

You do know that ID software basically started the FPS genre right?

Im also sure you know that Tim sweeny has stated several times that he was influence by John Carmacks work, and he wouldnt be where he is without his work.

O i get it, you're a gamer and follow games so you *think* you know what you are talking about when it comes to game development.



lol. Tim sweeny was working on strictly 2D games out of his basement before Doom/Quake. Matter of fact the first unreal engine was his first time doing 3D work.

yeah fps games were around before quake but quake was a fukking light year jump forward. ut99 was heavily influenced by quake. don't even know how anyone could deny that.
