The CD that went platinum was his first release in 2 years and benefitted greatly off of a surprise release. 65% of those numbers came in that first week.
The Project with Future was a wave riding project.
You keep talking about sales but I'm talking about music. If you're going to say that because SS is his best selling first week single, it got more play than Headlines, SFTB, or any of his other lead singles, that'd be a lie. That number one single isn't in support of his album. Iggy Azalea got nominated for a Grammy also that means nothing.

So much smoke around this release. Summer Sizteen benefited from that Meek diss as well. Which is also not about music, but about beef and "who was below who at the ritz or whatever"

Musically, this is his worse rollout.

I can buy that Meek wanted QM to write for him, but not bars. Meek doesn't need help with bars like Drake. Meek needs help with melodies and choruses. It would make sense for Meek to have QM lay down reference tracks for shyt like that, and TBH I wouldn't fault any rapper who gets help with choruses. I don't see that as any different than Nas or Hov getting Lauryn Hill or Mariah Carey to do a hook for them.

This makes sense, true battle rappers have bars for days. It's the rest of the song that's usually the issue.
