You can give them they flowers but they still not better than Jimi. A lot of people say Jimi the goat for a reason. It’s not just fans but it’s actual musicians even legendary musicians who call him the greatest
Jimi has said Chuck inspired him! Called him one of the greats, so…😂

Exactly. Jimi Hendrix is like Charlie "Bird" Parker is for Jazz. They were very talented and innovative, but they were also high as Hell most of the time and they played extremely fast and loud. People just accept that loudness as being good when in fact many times it was just a loud.
Easy for Hendrix' composition and skill to be overshadowed by his image and reputation., if it was all about volume anybody could do it. He was a badass on acoustic blues too.

Lakers
Charlie Singleton from Cameo
Mike Hampton from Parliament Funkadelic
Drac Hicks from Slave
David T Walker
Sugarfoot from the Ohio Players

I don’t consider any of them the greatest but they could play their asses off. And their names you don’t normally hear

Rock and roll is the Blues. Freddie King could play the Hell out of Rock and roll, but he was a bluesman through and through. Elmore James was another fantastic bluesman that could kill Rock and roll.

My only question is how many people that keep saying Jimi Hendrix have ever listened to any of the great bluesmen play?
I have listened to and admired all the greats from Charly Patton forward; I suspect Hendrix did too.

The issue is not whether Hendrix listened to the greats. My question is whether casual fans have bothered listening to the greats. People just reflexively say Hendrix, but they probably never heard of some of the other greats.

Probably not, that's why they're casual fans. I get it tho, Hendrix is the beneficiary of the "there can only be one Black man at a time" syndrome, and gets the most mainstream promotion. People reflexively say Hendrix, and barely know his catalog.
