What does it hurt to believe that there is an afterlife? What would it hurt to believe GOD is real and has control?

What keeps you from having even a little faith..now matter how little that GOD had a son that was born on Earth that performed miracles? And that of you believe in him, his teachings you will be saved?
:ohlawd:

And sidenote for my believers..who are some pastors yall listen to?

If I don't goto church I tend to like Bishop TD Jake's sermons but sometimes his sermons be too smart for me..and his style def appeals more.to the oldheads.

I was listening to Pastor mike Todd but he once gave a sermon rebuking people who would say "THE HOLY SPIRIT" instead of "HOLY SPIRIT" and I thought that was a big waste of time  ..not to mention he wears too much hypebeast gear while preaching.
they not going to get it because it takes a broken spirit more often than not to cry out to the lord

Ephesians 6:4

4 And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Hebrews 12:7-9

7 If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not?

8 But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye b*stards, and not sons.

9 Furthermore we have had fathers of our flesh which corrected us, and we gave them reverence: shall we not much rather be in subjection unto the Father of spirits, and live?

We are living in a world of illusion

Knowing that a book has more remixes than a 90s Bad Boy record
People have literally used the same book to insight hate/violence
The walking contradictions that are believers
Every God looks different, preaches different principles which has always been fishy to me
If there is a heaven then hell must be earth
Way too many tragedies and people hurting with no justice
I believe in something, not God though
Can’t describe it but I know it’s a force or energy and not some white nikka in the sky that looks like Jarod Leto
And I grew up in the church but I see the sham that it is today
And I was shamed as a child for having too many logical questions
But to be a hypocrite just like believers
I go every once in awhile just to see if I feel him or her or whatever it is
Also sometimes I just need to hear words to either confirm I’m making good decisions
Or if my intuition is telling me I’m right
If judgement day is real
I won’t run from it
Should’ve been dead along time ago
I’ll accept my fate and deal with it from there
But a book and it’s people are not going to make me a believer at this point
Nor will anybody on this forum
Don’t @ me fam
Trust I won’t read it:yeshrug:

One of the things that I have grappled with the most as a Christian is understanding the implications of the crucifixion.

Christ’s sacrifice is said to have been the sufficient atonement for the sin of the world. Sins past, present, and future. The sins of all of humanity.

With that in mind, Christ is called the new Adam.

If Adam’s act of disobedience allowed for sin to enter into the entirety of the human race, without humanity needing to have faith or belief in Adam, or a choice in the matter, if Christ is to be the new Adam, the parallel would be that his act of salvation is accorded to all of the human race, whether or not humanity has faith or belief in him, or have a choice in the matter.

The New Testament proclaims that salvation is a gift. A gift is freely given without any work needing to be done or any contingencies.

The nature of faith is two pronged for me. Faith is belief + action which makes it a work. The action part makes it a work. Which means faith isn’t just belief, there has to be action behind it.

The New Testament states that salvation is a gift, by faith, from God, and not a work that any man can boast was earned.

I have a problem with this because faith is essentially a work.

I don’t know, this is something that I’ve grappled with.

If Christ is to be the new Adam, if an atheist inherited sin without faith in the first Adam, Christ’s atonement means that they should equally inherit salvation without needing to have faith in the 2nd Adam.

I'm an atheist, but I find it entirely plausible that a man named Jesus was roaming around Judaea in the first quarter of the first century AD. There's more near-contemporary evidence for his existence than about 99% of anyone else who lived in the region at the time. Apart from the supernatural aspects i.e. the Nativity, the Resurrection, the basics of his life in the NT--an apocalyptic prophet putting forth an eschatological message of imminent change--are believable, given the milieu.
For me it’s just some cool homeless surfer bum dude that did a few magic tricks and amazed a bunch of plebeians :mjlol:

Because, when we get to the pearly gates. We don't want God to yell back to his people:

Hey yall, we got another one that tried to fake his way into heaven!

Right as he pulls the lever that sends us to hell...

you’re expecting me to believe all these stories are true after 400 years had passed from Jesus’ death to the first writings of the Bible?

Umm, false. The earliest writings concerning Jesus in the text were created within 20-60 years of his death.

Once I realized satan in the Bible was a cool dude I stop believing in them ducktales

Bruh just was trying to give knowledge and got cast away

Nah tho I realized all that shyt was duck tales since a small kid man. And as I did more research I saw the real and truth bullshyt behind it.

It’s a form of control.

and to op question if you a non believer then no way you can fake it to get to heaven if god can read your mind and heart(bullshyt), so I decided to live my life without all that extra bullshyt. I’m not a warm person, so I don’t need an imaginary person to carry me

You can't choose to believe something. If you don't believe something, you just don't believe it. :yeshrug:

For example I could never "believe" 1+1=3 even if I thought it was in my self interest. Sure I could pretend to, but I couldn't actually force myself to believe something I think is irrational.

If god rejects me based on the life I lived simply because I didn’t believe in god then god was never worth my time in the first place. Imagine a god that accepts murderers because they believed but a non believer who did good things throughout his life but was atheist. That doesn’t even make sense and it’s humans being idiots thinking they’d know how a higher being thinks

The Bible shouldn’t be taken literally. It has some good lessons that tells you to be good to people. Unlike a lot of so called “Christians” I don’t need the threat of eternal damnation to do the right thing. A lot of y’all should ask the question why you need to essentially be threatened to just be a good human tho:sas2:
