What does it hurt to believe that there is an afterlife?

It hurts plenty. We need to focus on combating REAL world problems. Many who buy into the life after death delusion either deny this or try to make it worse.

We've seen Muslims suicide bomb children's birthday parties believing that they'd get 72 virgins an alleged afterlife. Christian Zionists, a now very influential movement amongst conservatives, are willing to give the Israeli government whatever it wants, including wars which kill millions, in order to fulfill end times prophecies. Some Christians are similarly fine with doing nothing about climate change for similar reasons.

Suicide bombing is horrific. Actively trying to bring about the end the world is the worst thing people can do. As Voltaire said, "Those who can make you believe absurdities can also make you commit atrocities."
