Question: Why don't Black people like real singing anymore....from Black artists?

I guess Jeremih & TY $ are in that bracket but I think their work last year was stellar.

Miguel has vocals and his album was strong. Janelle Monae same. Jazmine Sullivan. Nao. Lianne La Havas. FKA Twigs. DVSN.

Lots of dope RnB imo.

The problem is that most R&B singers realize that in doing so, you've automatically limited your lane. Most Black kids under 30 are not trying to hear ballads or things like that, it has almost completely become dominated by turn-up music. I mean anything that is pure R&B is automatically branded as 'neo-soul' and that basically means a career playing in coffee houses and auditoriums.

@CrimsonTider

You know good and damn well Luther Vandross would NOT be famous...and adored by millions of women in THIS era.

I don't know how u can say it's not about image anymore. If anything it's ALL about image now. Back then, it was somewhat about image, but talent was more important overall.
Image plays a factor but the quality of the music reigns supreme. Take Kendrick and Cole both of these nikkas have been dressing like bums for the better part of 2014 and 2015

And Luther would be famous if his music connected to people the way it did back then. I mean Adele isn't attractive an Sam Smith looks like a vampire.

Everybody not named Adele or Taylor Swift. Image and brand is more important than actual music and talent today.

Most popular mainstream artists are mostly known for their image; their music takes a back seat. This is the first era in history where this has happened in such mass numbers.
What artist are more know for their image than their music?

No offense but this is part of the problem, right here.
Anyone with a drop of color gets tossed into the RnB category, even if they're not making RnB.
La Havas doesn't make RnB. She makes folk music with soul leanings, but not RnB as most would call it.
That lane is stuffed with people of color, and all it does is allow the powers that be to lock us in that closet, while the whites get played everywhere.
Its by design man.

If Rihanna didn't look good and have such an IDGAF attitude nobody would give a fukk about her music. She has had to cancel tour dates cuz not enough tickets were sold

You have to put this into context when you say something like this. It can happen to any artist because these things depend on the cities, are you on an album cycle, etc.

And I dont get how you can say no one would give a fukk about her music if it wasn't for her looks an attitude. Her music was pretty damn successful before we got to "know" rih.

Azelia banks has even more of an IDGAF attitude than Rhi and hasn't done shyt musically.

Tinashe looks better than Rhi and has't done shyt musically.

You are downplaying Rhi ability to make music that connects to a wide audience.

Im just going by what I hear which is a bunch of people trying to sing rap lyrics in a falsetto. Where's the great voice of this generation?
Maybe it was Musiq Soulchild.

But he quit to become an abysmal rapper named The Husel

It's a legit issue.
