Part of the problem is people cant sing like they used to. Not as many people raised in the church. Image is more important than talent which is sad
This right here. You ever look at singers in the past and notice how fukkin ugly they are(not all of course)? That's because it didn't matter what you looked like but what you sounded like. They didn't have the technology to alter and refine your voice back then so you needed real talent to make it.

personally i suspect the powers that be are pushing Ratchet-n-B over traditional black soul music not because it's more profitable(judging by the charts very few of these artist sale like that) but because they want to strip black people of one of our few musical art forms which was mostly positive and portrayed class and own it for themselves..similar to gangsta rap profanity laced, vulgar, misogynistic and new age Rn-B is the the soundtrack and image of black America whitey wold rather define us.:mjpls:

It gets accepted from white people because unlike their own, black people don't percieve white people through the prism of "swag". White folks get a blank canvas for expression. If adele was a black woman she wouldn't sell millions of records today. She would lose all that weight real quick.

The truth is that in this country black people fetishize each other. But because they're the same skin as each other, they can hide behind that, so instead of calling it a fetish they call it "having standards." Look at the dating game for example. That's why black people do better in foreign markets. Whether it's music, film, dating, etc.

This is SOOOO true.

We'll give White folks credit for trying and shyt all over nikkaz that don't have enough swag. We're harder on each other than we are on others who do our shyt.

nikkaz like Sam Smith, Bieber, Adele, Aguilera, etc. . .will get so much credit for "sounding Black" whereas Black artists who sound Black will get glossed over by other Black people.

Image plays a factor but the quality of the music reigns supreme. Take Kendrick and Cole both of these nikkas have been dressing like bums for the better part of 2014 and 2015

And Luther would be famous if his music connected to people the way it did back then. I mean Adele isn't attractive an Sam Smith looks like a vampire.

Yeah, but Kendrick and Cole are recent developments. Black music for most of the past 15 years has been nikkaz talking about clubs, bytches, parties, etc. . and doing all kinds of lame ass dances and bytches who can barely sing singing bullshyt like Rihanna

You thinking her music isn't good doest mean the same for fans or anyone else for that matter.

If she was a fat woman, she wouldn't be famous.

You have to put this into context when you say something like this. It can happen to any artist because these things depend on the cities, are you on an album cycle, etc.

And I dont get how you can say no one would give a fukk about her music if it wasn't for her looks an attitude. Her music was pretty damn successful before we got to "know" rih.

Azelia banks has even more of an IDGAF attitude than Rhi and hasn't done shyt musically.

Tinashe looks better than Rhi and has't done shyt musically.

You are downplaying Rhi ability to make music that connects to a wide audience.

It's not about it only being about Rih's look, she had a huge machine behind her thanks to Jay's Roc A Fella. Tinashe might not have the same machine and she may not be in the right place at the right time.

And Azalea Banks has fukked up by continually offending those White fags in an era where you cannot fukk with gays anymore. If she didn't consistently say shyt that's fukked up, she'd be wayyyy more famous.

Like every female now sounds like Beyonce with that high pitched vibrato half rapping singing thing that Kellz came up with

:comeon:Um you mean that Bone Thugs came up with

The reason is a 2 pronged issue. The first is the willfull depravity of certain demographics. Music has no innuendo anymore...it's vulgar to be honest. Vulgarity is fine in small doses...expected in hip hop more than r&b, but it has permeated that genre also.
The second issue is that our/black music/ culture is corporatized. You think you are choosing, but merely being told what you like. Meanwhile, good wholesome music is hidden or appropriated "done better."

We know this, but still support it. :yeshrug:

Yeah fam. That's the kind of singing that moves you & you saw A. Keys reaction. White people can't copy that. It's messed up these kinds of vocals aren't being pushed & featured among Black artists anymore. I'd be shocked if he didn't learn to sing from coming up through the church

Exactly! White people can mimic all they want too but they can never duplicate what we originated. Yeah, I bet he started singing in the church :ohlawd:

Yeah, I'm glad you brought this up.

Vulgarity was one of Hip-Hop's strong suits because it was different than every other style of music, but now our entire culture is vulgar and degraded, that it not only degrades those other types of music, it degrades Hip-Hop, because it strips Hip-Hop of what made it special.

Black kids let technology hone their voices, and not used like in traditional church services.
