As good as his regular season was, "The Schedule" had one of the worst playoff runs in the history of the game and now his regular season and 2nd place in the MVP voting needs to be put into a larger context.

I watched some breakdown videos from the all-22 and there were a lot of open receivers underneath that Maye missed. He was hitting these guys in the regular season. My only assumption is that his pre-snap reads fooled him because he didnt look at those underneath routes.

I simply think the moment got to him, I was surprised at the amount of throws he normally made all season that he missed or didn't even try to attempt

Yall need to stop categorizing QBs for team wins and losses..Love had 300+ yards and 4 TDs and still lost due to a p*ssy ass coach, shytty kicker, and shytty defense. Theres a difference between a QB playing good and losing and a QB playing bad and losing or even winning.

Drake played Avg this playoff run but thats all they needed to make the SB, nothing wrong with that. Then he played like shyt due to SEA defense. It happens. It has happened to greats like Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes, ect. Doesnt mean Maye is trash or cant win big games, it means his team has holes that need too be filled in order for them to win.

When will u nikkas learn the NFL is the ultimate team sport. U can have the greates QB ever and still cant win without a good o-line, defense, and/or coach. Hell QBs even won and loss due to kickers...(fukk u McManus)

Sports media has dumb shyt down, there is no nuance it's just QB vs QB as if other factors don't play a part

People shouldn't forget this was a team that was picking in the top team two years in a row and that's what they looked like when they came up against Seattle. The difference in talent is wild.

Additionally, McDaniels has been exposed yet again as a mid OC and Vrabel was shytting the bed in terms of in game management especially use of timeouts

Patriots were super ahead of schedule, the roster is at best average and so this was always the likely outcome

Maye though should be fine long term, he's shown a lot these past two seasons but more experience and more necessary components will be essential.

It's wild that a rebuilding team got to the SB, the coaching staff have been great all season but performed badly at the SB

Let’s not act like Lamar ain’t had Derrick Henry, Prime David Andrew’s a good O Line, like 5 pro bowlers on defense and has absolutely NOTHING to show for. Lamar Jackson is 3-5 in playoff games in his 8 year career with 10 TDS, 7 Ints and 7 fumbles. Lamar Jackson is not top 4 even if Maye didn’t take his spot.

Allen
Stafford
Mahomes
Burrow

Are ahead.
Allen and Burrow?

Mahomes is further away from the other 3 than the other 3 are from Jackson.

The funny thing is, the 2023 dolphins also had an easy schedule and Tua had one of his best statiscal seasons that year. He was a legit mvp candidate at QB. But all I heard was “they had an easy schedule”. Why wouldn’t the samething apply to Maye? Is it because he had an SB run? Is it because he faced ferocious defenses? Well..cool. The 2023 dolphins got eliminate by the Kansas City defense that would win the SB a few weeks later and repeat. Tua was going up against playoff caliber and healthy AFC QBs. Maye while playing well, took advantage of a rather unusual afc season where QB play was down across the board and health kinda ruined a lot in the post season. Drake Maye being the heir apparent of the post-tom/post-bill pats and NFL media longing for aughts nostalgia, has given Drake Maye ALOT of good will. Where we get to see his flaws come to life in the post season, but handwave them off because he didn’t fukk up enough to prevent NE from getting to the big game. When you try argue Drake Maye being ahead of Lamar Jackson, that shows me all I need to know, in terms of the NFL media push, and what narratives are trying to be spun. Like why does bad QB play get hasnwqve when “certain” QBs get to the big game? :mjpls:

I’ve seen Hurts put up spectacular stats in TWO super bowls, and ppl still be iffy about his overall placing amongst QBs years later. :patrice:

It’s clear ppl were eager to drop Lamar off on these rankings. Just waiting for an opportune time. Meanwhile burrow missed another post season, and ppls perceptions of him are clean as a whistle.

Multiple things can be true. What elite QB hasn't had struggles against top defenses...especially under pressure? Thats all he faced.

Is coming back from a multiple score deficit THE standard? And if so did he prove he cant or did he just not do it in the one opportunity he was provided.

But there is no denying he has room to grow. He definitely made some mistakes. I just don't think we can use getting roughed up in a SB after playing the caliber of defenses he played every week as a gotcha.
This part, i know @murksiderock is a great guy to have actual discourse with, but this thread just brings out knee jerk reactions and responses from others, everything starts with line play, if your tackle is in your lap from the start of the play well idk what you are expecting, “he read his first read and panics” well yeah he was getting his boots smoked if he held the ball longer than 3 seconds, also it’s year 2 and Seattle has a bunch of long fast dbs, windows are tighter than a gnats ass it’s a reason diggs name ain’t get called a lot
