I mean clearly we are in different times. Why ya expect a early 20 year old to rap like a artist who was making moves before he was even able to form a sentence?

It's corny to hold younger mcs to a standard that they weren't even around for just to fulfill ya own personal expectations.

That's like me expecting rappers in 2030 to be rapping like Future or Migos and getting butt hurt if they dont.

It's idiotic.

We want them to be more lyrical and creative :what:

Well rappers are definitely more creative nowadays.

And why do motherfukkas have to be "lyrical" to be good anyway. Some of our greatest rappers were not lyrical at all.

"Lyricism" as a whole wasn't even something that hip hop was built up on. Rappers from the 80s weren't lyrical miracle. That was only a staple on the east coast when Ra came thru for a couple of years.

Then west coast music came thru with more emphasis on bass, synths n musicality. Dre n Eazy weren't spitting multi's n doubles

like many other trends this genre has gone thru. Being lyrical was a fad. And something that should be seen as a side dish rather than a main requirement

quick question - why do you think we want them to rap like its the 90s?

I was peeping that new xxl rapper thread.

And ppl were saying bullshyt like Dave East is the only "real one"

Cause he spits like a old school nikka.

When in reality Dave not even a top 3 artist on that cover in regards to the overall process of making good modern music.

And I'm actually a east fan too

What do you mean by making moves? If you talking about being street dudes that's one thing, but you really think there is some valid excuse for a 20 year old to not be able to put together interesting lyrics and creative songs in 2016? Tell a captivating story? Talk about something that's beyond drugs and strip clubs? Teenagers were doing it easily in the 80's & 90's

i think its more about them trying to be unique and establish themselves as their own entity

alot of these dudes are biting people that came before them, but who havent even fully made it themselves

they all look the same, but thats a lil more about the fashion of the times and whats hot

but alot of whats 'hot' to the kids today, all sounds sonically the same. none of these dudes are really doing their own thing. (dunno whos to blame for that, prolly a mix of art imitates life/life imitates art shyt)

some are pushing the culture forward stylistically, unlocking new flows and stuff, and i think thats dope. but alot of these nikkas is straight up fame chasing biters, with no original bone in their body.

the ones who seem like they trying to stand out, i got no issue with, but the carbon copy clones are the ones that can go make some reservations for the bushes.

my 2 cents as an old nikka who still likes some of this new stuff

I see what you're saying.

Dave East is straight up trash. Yes there are a group of so-called hip hop heads that want that old-school sounding shyt. To keep it real, those types aren't the biggest hip hop fans anyway. They're just fans of what's familiar to them and easy to understand.

I'm an 'old' guy at this point and I understand that hip hop has to evolve. It has to go through different phases for it to remain interesting. The last ten years or so have been garbo but there's always superb music in every era, even if it's rare, as you can see from my avi.
