It's not that I "want/expect young rappers to rap like it's the 90s", but:
1. ...damn, ain't they from the 90s?? I mean...if you a rapper and you just comin' up,
won't your raps be about how your life used to be? The 90s didn't have any effect on you -
especially seeing as how it was The Gilded Age of rapping??
2. ...a great deal of these rappers are not that "young"!
I mean, Yo Gotti been rappin' for 'bout 20 years...
3. ...they gotta pay their dues, mayne. A lot of dudes now think they're gonna make their
li'l mixtapes on their computer, make a video on YouTube go viral, and then sit in the corner and
be rap stars. Nuh-uh, you gotta show me somethin'. Show me some skills.
I can't take no rapper seriously that will be on a radio show and won't rap over no CLASSIC beat.
(*looks at Vert*)
3b. Rap, dammit!
It's dudes I hear are rappers, but I ain't heard nann song from them...yet they got 4 clips on VladTV.
WTF? Why you got more interviews than records??
4. ...if niccas wanna talk about how the game has to evolve, understand that "evolve" means it moves
forward, AND KEEPS THE THINGS THAT MADE IT WORK. So much of the dope chit in rappin' has
been jettisoned, and that can't be "progress".
- it used to be weird for a rapper to make an album that didn't have a story rap on it. Not so anymore.
- off-the-dome freestyle is considered passe'. Shameful.
- 3 16-bar verses in each song. That's it.
- Back-and-forth rhyming by two MCs is dead.
But whatever, do what you want.
