What's funny about these type of threads is that muthafukkaz can't even give a reason WHY one album is better than another.....Lyrics? Beats/samples? Song placement? Sales? You remember ya mama and your sister shakin they ass to the shyt when it came on the radio? Gotdamn, you muthafukkaz gotta do better than this, even if this is a troll thread.:russ:

And how you gone try and convince an east coast nikka that Illmatic wasn't hittin in the streets or one of the greatest albums to drop :comeon:

I was in the muthafukkin record store the day Illmatic and Quik is the name dropped, Imma west coast cat, of course I was bangin that Quik like everybody elseh in Cali, won't necessarily say it was "better" than Illmatic just enjoyed it waaaaaay more. The songs, beats/samples, comedy and realness of the album, nikka went in on p*ssy, weed, street tales, and partyin n bullshyt in a way that every nikka my age going into the 9th grade could relate to. The album fit the atmosphere/weather/ of Cali perfectly, just like Illmatic did for NY I figure.

Bruh, even the birds up at the school knew the words to Sweet Black p*ssy. Tonight was slappin outta every muthafukkin clean ass old school and bucket buick that rattled by. Radio rode the wheels off that album. How the album sounded comin outta some 15's with the zappco on fire, potnas fresh outta YA talked about coppin the album instead of fukkin a bytch. Teenagers and grown folk owned that Quik album. Let tell yall again, if you were Black or Mexican and born in the 90's in Cali, theres a good chance ya muthafukkin ass was conceived to some DJ Quik, AMG, 2nd ll None, Hi-C. All 4 of them nikkaz dropped their debuts in 91.

Homework assignment: all my 90's bruhs n esse's born in Cali, ask yall parents about DJ Quik.

Oh and don't get it twisted, Illmatic was bangin in Cali, esp on the radio. You didn't hear it pumpin outta cars much but niigaz around the way did have the tape.

It's funny. My old neighbor out here was a drunk old black woman in her 50's who always was trying to flirt and build with me on some music shyt and one of her best pick up lines was her telling me how she "JUST FOUND MY OLD 2nd II NONE tape"!

i never fukked with the Quik offshoot albums but i loved Quik Is The Name. How'd you feel about 'Way 2 Fonkay'? I thought that shyt was a huge drop off. That album was such a let down i wrote Quik off completely until like the late 90's.

Man the entire 304 posse's biggest fans were women...old and young. Females loved some Quik, AMG, 2nd, n Hi-C. Them cats was straight CLOWNIN women on albums, all revolving around sex, but the beats Mel these cats was clownin n spittin over :damn: Old school 70's n 80's funk n RnB that had quiet chicks turning into freaks at school dances n parties, no joke......Young n old bruh, shyt was lovely.

That Way 2 Fonkay.....Hate to admit it, I didn't even buy that album. I heard it and just didn't have the same impact his first shyt did. Jus Lyke Comton was cool but it had to grow on me. That album was DWARFED compared to what was droppin from 91-93???? Tell em Bruh.....shyt, not even including NY, let's talk just the state of Cali.....Spice 1's debut, and Guerillas In The Mist kicked Way 2 Fonkay dead in the ass......IMO. Beat wise, content, lyrically......I ain't revisioning. The Chronic late 92?Early 93? Black Mafia Life came down the pipe.....shyt was outta control.

So many gotdamn singles and albums from all over the muthafukkin country....shyt, I can even post some sub underground shyt from 92 that was fukkin with Way 2 Fonkay.

That's what I'm saying. Way 2 Fonkay had dated funk beats even by 1991 - 1992 standards. That ATL album with VSOP? Sheeeeit. We loved that album. Guerrillas In The Mist was tougher than Predator to me.

I think I may dust off black mafia life tonight.

If someone likes illmatic,i dont have a problem. I listen to a few songs off there regularly myself. But all that "best album" talk is nonsense. It's not nas best album, not the best album of 94' and not a great album at all. For a nikka that really remembers illmatic's impact or lack there of,it's disgusting to watch the brainwash revisionist history of it. Why,because it's nikkas out here that really put it down and nikkas out here lying as if shyt happened differently. I remember 94' like yesterday. I was 14,everybody had walk mans and would ask each other what they were bumpin. Illmatic was not in the conversation ever.Readt to die, Da brat funkadafied, southernplayalistic, the diary, creepin on ah come up,thuglife, regulate g-funk era,8ball & mjg on the outside lookin in etc etc were al hotter than illmatic out in the neighborhoods and school
Why do you equate radio play and commercial success to how good an album is? Was it the hottest album of 1994 no, if you don't know about the circumstances behind Nas or the album don't talk. There's a reason nikkas talk about this album 20 years later and hold it to the standard they do. Yes, it is Nas album what the fukk? Not a great album man just shut the fukk up. :snoop:

I hope you not tryna Fundafied better than Illmatic :comeon:

Dj wuik instagram got nas on it... he calls nas a rap GOD. GET THE fukk OUTTA here

Dj quik is that nikka but he's never been "THE BEST" ever.
Foolish to compare album sales from the 90s and early 00s to the 10s. Different climate.
Have Dmx or ja rule ever headlined tours that grossed over $40 million. Do they have many multiplatinum singles?
