Why do you equate radio play and commercial success to how good an album is? Was it the hottest album of 1994 no, if you don't know about the circumstances behind Nas or the album don't talk. There's a reason nikkas talk about this album 20 years later and hold it to the standard they do. Yes, it is Nas album what the fukk? Not a great album man just shut the fukk up. :snoop:

I hope you not tryna Fundafied better than Illmatic :comeon:
The post you quoted doesnt speak of radio. No it's not great at all. My point about funkdafied is that it meant more in 94' than illmatic,by far. Illmatic was not the big event people make it out to be. And as far as it being better, lyrically naw. Every other way yea

Funkdafied never meant more than Illmatic. Funkdafied never mattered. I've never heard Funkdafied - so I can't speak on a direct comparison to Illmatic

It's better than Fundafied in every way

It's definitely great if it wasn't great it wouldn't be talked about 20 years later, the album with NY State of Mind/One Love/Memory Lane/The World is Yours/Represent not great? :what: It wouldn't have gotten rave reviews from every media outlet in '94 if it wasn't great.

If it was wack with no impact then why have so many artists from that time period it dropped praising it and claiming it as influence? Why are rappers from today claiming it as influence and even making remakes of it?

Never thought ny state of mind was special. Represent is run of the mil shyt.one love aint shyt either. Dont like the beats on any of the ones i just named. It was praised by east coast bias writers.
In the early 90's the source gave 5 mics to 7 albums,6 of which were east coast. If nas does nothing after illmatic,it would of never had it's current acclaim, same thing with jay's reasonable doubt (reasonable doubt is a great album, much better than illmatic though).
Honestly outside of the internet i've never had someone speak to me about illmatic being special NEVER. When i was young,i never heard illmatic playing out of cars, walkmans or apt/home windows. And we had it in 94',

I think it's other mid nineties east coast albums that shyt on illmatic like
IWW
RD
The infamous
RTD
36 chambers
I even like fat joe's Jealous one's envy better than illmatic

Ok you don't like the album and have a pretty radical opinion especially of those tracks stop acting like you speak for mad nikkas because the stories on this board from people your age and older are abundant with nothing but good things to say about that album.

None of those albums is shytting on Illmatic, those artists themselves would disagree. I could imagine telling a Nas stan like Fat Joe that his shyt was better than Illmatic he'd literally look at you like :wtf:

You telling Havoc that Illmatic ain't shyt when that nikka has talked first hand about Illmatic's influence on Mobb Deep and QB in general. IWW better than Illmatic? :mjlol: Ain't No Nikka takes RD out of the discussion alone IMO, and Jay another stan of Illmatic who had the shyt admittedly on bootleg and used to sell demos out his car bumping Illmatic.

:damn:Playboi.......

Always damn interesting to hear the perspective of an album's impact in other places or how it was received. Had a potna from Columbus, he was still raving about Illmatic in 95-96. He was up on EVERYTHING NY related. Only west coast tapes he owned was Dre, Snoop, and gotdamn Brotha Lynch Hung of all people, now that shyt COMPLETELY blew my mind.
