He's an interior linemen that got caught on a team who uses high draft picks on interior linemen every year. The move to OLB was an effort to keep him on the team. He's also just not all that good and didnt seem to be a coaches favorite- with Rex or Bowles.

seemed that way, he was an end before Mo Wilk pushed him out right?

he was a 'questionable effort' guy too, i see Arik Armstead from 9ners suffering a similar fate in 2 years. kids like that usually bust more than boom

Mo was drafted the year before Coples. Sheldon Richardson basically made Coples expendable...and Leger Douzable was getting snaps over him too there.

They played him out of position.

All of the film was him playing the 3 technique.

Pretty much. He weighed 315 at one time and came down to 270 to play OLB

He got moved out of position because they drafted someone else to play his position.

Take the fukking L on this one.
Why? He should have stayed at the 3.

There's no L here. Seen the same thing happen to Kiwanuka.

If he was so great at the 3, why did they draft someone else to play there? Why were they not able to even get a late round draft pick for him?

Coples was never good enough to have a thread like this created tbh...but the Jets have been shytty drafters and Coples did get kinda screwed by Rex. He had no business playing off the edge...he's not a great athlete.

Sheldon's a better player :yeshrug:

Rex thought he could transition to OLB, it didn't work out. He also broke his ankle

Because they had two draft picks and took the best player on the board which was Richardson.

It's that simple and wasn't an indictment on Coples. Jets just did the same thing in taking Leonard Williams this year.
