First of all, this thread should be pinned IMHO.

However, it warms my heart to see so many people on here who were as devastated as I was to hear that Mr. Madison passed away.

My father used to sit on the couch in our living room and listen to WOL all day, and every day and although he never implicitly told me to listen to Mr. Madison’s show, to see how intently he used to listen to him made me interested and once I started to listen, I never stopped. A few weeks after I graduated from Hampton, he had a segment on his show about the school starting a sailing program and since I covered it for the school newspaper - the Hampton Script - I called in and told him everything he wanted to know about it. He thanked me profusely and although that was a looooong time ago, just being able to speak with him that one time has stuck with me all these years.

I can’t begin to quantify how much I learned listening to him over the years and it’s hard to believe that I will never hear him say, “Let’s get this party started” to start my morning ever again. He was a legend in every sense of the word and a voice in our community that will never be replaced.

R.I.P. Black Eagle.

As far as replacement, I think Karen Hunter could do it because she’s informed while still being entertaining and has some of Joe’s spirit in how she runs her show. The hours may not work for her though and she has developed a real following at her current time slot.

Damn this caught me off guard ..about 10yrs ago I had a subscription to xm and me and my gf at the time use to listen to him..years later my kids use to recite his intro "its Joe Madison the black eagle" He was very informative and I would laugh my ass off when he went off on people even the nice ones who gave compliments. Damn man this sucks. I listened to him in the morning every chance I got. His show was the ONLY show I ever said “you know what I gotta call in”. I called a couple times, glad I did, I always felt better after discussing my viewpoints with him.

I need to buy his book tomorrow.

This shyt is terrible.

Right. Dude used to be sonning the shyt outta dudes…like sometimes unnecessarily…
:mjlol:

That was always the funniest. Sometimes Joe would get so amped up off a misunderstanding and go OFF on someone, and I’m listening like :whoa: “hold up Joe he is on your side, just let him clarify”.
