Wait, arguably the greatest rapper ever is just randomly in recording studios with Will Smith? Why?

1). Will Smith was on Columbia, which released Will’s first two solo albums and the Men In Black Soundtrack (which Nas was on coincidentally). Nas and Will were label mates

2). Will and Nas are both big fans of each other. Will and Jaden randomly came on stage at a Nas show a few years ago and Will rapped all of Nas’s lyrics alongside him.

3). Steve Stoute was working with Will on Big Willie Style and had the Trackmasters produce songs. He was Nas’s manager at the time. It would stand to gain that Steve would arrange for the biggest movie star in the world and one of the biggest MC’s to chop it up

I feel a type of way seeing that gay flag behind Rakim, him being "The God." It stands out because they purposely removed it when Farrakhan was there.
Farrakhan removed and replaced the background when he appeared. Look at the interview and see what was behind him. He is a master of media and messages.

Trackmasters produced BIG WILLIE STYLE (and of course IWW) + they were labelmates.

@Ziggiy Knowledge the Pirate said the exact same shyt about Will, he writes his own raps but Will is an OLD SCHOOL rapper at heart so he asks people how to update his raps/style. He did it with Nas and Knowledge was involved in some of the older shyt, but everybody always says Will was the writer first and foremost.
Nas is notoriously reclusive and guarded. I don't buy that he was just randomly hanging out with Will Smith.
Believe what you believe, though.

1. irrelevant...nas is notoriously reclusive and funny style to people on his own TEAM (nature, quan, cormega, have talked about him flaking on them on projects) he missed scheduled video shoot for song he appeared on with kay slay debut album. So will smith being his label mate would be irrelevant here.
2. will smith jumping on stage during a nas concert in the last 10 years is proof that they are long term fans of each other's music ?
3. This is more like it. You just made the argument for why nas wrote the song. Having arguably the greatest rapper ever there to write/ghostwrite the lead single for a project that you are involved with would be a no-brainer for Stoute.
Chop it up? emphatic now cypher.

You could tell Don Cornelius HATED Hip Hop and flat out didn't understand it
The old guard.............he, Frankie Crocker, etc were just from an older generation. They thought eventually hip hop would fade out, like disco did. Speaking of which, in Paid In Full film......there's a great scene that illustrates this generation gap. Dry cleaner store owner comes back to the shop and turns down Ace's music, and turns the radio to something smooth.

I lived long enough that now I'm the dry cleaner store owner, asking my nephew to turn down that noise.

Is this worth a listen? Ra is the God, but his interviews are kind of boring.

I knew I'd get flamed for this post IDGAF. You realize there's a middle ground where you can be fashionably current and age appropriate? Ra dresses like a dude that caught a body in the late 90s and just came home not realizing times have changed lol

That’s kinda what happens. My dad is 57 and been dressing like Bernie Mac since he was 35 :mjlol:

LL was not seeing Rakim. KRS wasn't either.

Kane and Rakim were my favorites as a kid and it would've been a great battle but after hearing those bars Rakim had for him I don't think Kane had a chance on wax.

Rakim was just on another level at the time. It might be hard to appreciate if you weren't there but he raised the bar. He made the Shan's, Moe Dee's, and the other guys before him sound average to wack. They were just rapping while Rakim was a lyricist. Only thing comparable is when Nas dropped Illmatic.
