I’m from NC, but attended 2 years of high school and worked my first “adult” job outta college in MS, so I claim it as well. I’m a Carolina boy though...straight outta Winston Salem; tobacco city. Went back to school in NC and my folks still in NC

As a Black person, what’s it like in Raleigh, Durham, Charlotte, and Greensboro? What’s the nightlife/entertainment scene, food scene, recreational activities, traffic, public transit, local politics, shopping, public school/charter school system, job market, etc. like in each city?

Those are the places in NC I’ve been curious about should I decide to move down South from the DMV for a change of scenery.

Raleigh is wonderful to raise a family, safe, somewhat diverse, and great for black people, so far as there is anywhere great for blacks in America (a bunch of places are worse). I prefer Charlotte, but my girl's family is all in Raleigh and Fayetteville and I can't get her to commit to Charlotte...

I'm not much of a partier but it's a college town so there's always stuff going on but it's not Atlanta or NYC

I work in IT and live in Cary. Great environment and the cost of living is pretty decent despite shyt rising.

Greensboro nightlife cool for the most part. It’s a college city, so there will be a lot of young 21-25 year olds wherever you go. There’s quite a few clubs, and my favorite will always be Greene St. Drinking and hanging with ya folk on the rooftop I know they’ve got a pavilion/hangout area where the old lotus lounge used to be. There’s a Fat Tuesday’s there, and folks are just outside drinking and chillin.

Food - You’ve got pretty much anything you want; especially with it being a college town and many cultures being blended. Dames chicken and waffles is good. If you like soul food hit up Stephanie’s, and downtown I’ll hit up snackbox for some sliders.

Public transit/Traffic - public transit trash. There’s a bus system, but you need a car to really get around in the boro. Traffic isn’t too bad but it can get a lil congested getting onto 29.

Shopping - 2 malls (4 seasons and the friendly center) with a few shopping places off wendover.

Job market - got quite a few big corporations in the city and High Point. Honda Jet gotta plant out by the airport.

Greensboro cool. It picks up in the fall around the time of GHOE or A&T’s homecoming.

Greensboro a waste of time lol. They got a pitiful downtown with basically 1-2 blocks of vibrancy on Elm, then nothing. Spring Garden is the other nightlife area, same thing. Nightlife is decent but again, we're talking 1-2 blocks of activity that is heavily college-oriented...

Nightlife in all of NC's cities are kinda like this. Raleigh's and Durham's are only a little better. Charlotte has the best nightlife infrastructure in NC, but the others aren't completely trash. Just have your expectations at a realistic level...

I'm trying to decide whether to set up shop in Raleigh or Charlotte at the End of year. Leaning towards Charlotte of y'all reviews

Wanted to move to Atlanta but when I got there I realized it's a big ass hood surrounded by suburbs. Plus most the bussdown hoes from my city moving there to "start over"
