The finishing at the rim has always been the bigger issue than the shooting. He's still trying to to avoid reverting to bad habits when he shoots (now of curse, no one really talks about it as much now because he actually puts points up-- for a guy who can't shoot he lives off the FT line-- but the shot selection is worse than the form. That will take time, but taking long twos with 18 seconds left on the clock is not cool.) He shouldn't do it, as well as everyone else on the team, but that's a coaching problem. Unfortunately Flip's here to stay because he won't fire himself and that will do harm to everyone. Sure the mid range will get better but you can't win games the way Flip designs shyt now.

Offensively he's approaching historic levels of awfulness for a guard, I mean if he even could make just 42% of his shots you'd be much better as a result. In his last 10 games he's shooting 32% and this isn't some rookie struggling this is a dude that's been playing pro-ball for like a decade and still cannot shoot even a little bit. The worst part is like you said, he doesn't seem to be bashful about shooting those long ass 2 pointers, that sequence where he bricked two 18 footers last night in the span of a few seconds

I just cannot understand how he's so bad at such a fundamental thing, when he's got such a high bball IQ, did dude break his wrist when he was younger or something.

The ones that can shoot are just lost in the transition of the changing of the (point) guard, so to speak - simply because if you don't stand out at the college/HS level or aren't drafted and given the right opportunity for being just primarily a pass-first player - you fall through the cracks. It folds into the state of basketball and how it's evolved into a position-less, ultra-athletic, ball-moving game. Plus the three-point line's gradual increase of play widens this gap even more - there's nowhere to hide.

I've been saying for years that the term 'pure point guard' is just used to overcompensate for a player that's limited in shooting/scoring - if your baskets made/assists ratio seems abnormally in favor of the latter, than it's more than likely you can't shoot for shyt.

I just can't understand how they can't do something so basic, these aren't big men with gigantic hands, these are 6-1 to 6-4 guys that should be able to shoot but look straight up lost doing it. It makes me wonder if Rubio even works on his game during the summer, 1000-2000 shots a day is a long standing staple in fixing jumpers, statistically Michael Kidd Gilchrist has a better mid-range shot than him for his career

Good point about made shots vs assists ratio, the "Pure" PG label is always used for dudes with anemic offense, Payton is just the latest and while Schroeder got the tag last year he clearly shows signs of being able to score and shoot.

A little bit OT, but come 3-6 years from now, will teams be ultra-hesitant to trade 1st rounders? When the Nets and Heat are depleted, while the 76'ers and Celtics are feasting, I'm sure this will mark a radical change in how GM's make moves.

He did break his wrist when he was younger though I wouldn't connect that to his shot. It's all mental with him.

The funny thing is that replace the long twos with threes he can actually make and his percentages wouldn't even looked bad. You can stomach making 37% from outside and then he makes his FT's too.

A problem Wolves fans have with Ricky and will undoubtedly have with Wiggins is that they'll never have time to work on their games because they'll be in International competitions for the rest of their careers. The only way Ricky will have that time off other than getting injured is to tell the Spanish team to fukk off which he won't do.

People have been saying that for years now. If there is as much parity in the league in a few years you'll continue see teams that feel they are close to contending or contenders trading first round picks in lieu of giving away assets that are adding to their team in the present. In the NBA the window to contend can close quickly so the bottom teams will keep feasting on teams looking for assets.
