that final Pelicans possession is a perfect example of why Monty Williams is arguably the worst coach in the entire NBA.
N.O. had the ball with about 21 seconds left, down by 1, and already at mid-court. then Monty let them run the clock down closer to about 15 seconds before calling their final timeout. Only to draw up a "play" where Tyreke Evans dribbled around not passing once and throwing up a brick leaving 2.5 seconds on the clock. Phoenix went on to miss one of their free throws leaving it only a two point game, but because Monty chose to use his final timeout to draw up such a brilliant "hey Tyreke, just dribble around and shoot" play, they were unable to attempt a final shot.

Tyreke had the ball at half court dribbling around with 21 seconds left and Monty calls a timeout seconds later only to draw up the exact same ISO situation for him
It's like he completely forgot that was their final timeout and worst case scenario they miss that shot (without using the timeout) and even if Phoenix had knocked down both free throws it would still only be a three point game. they would have been able to use the timeout then and advance the ball.Monty is not head coach material. he would be great as an assistant, but his late game decision making is about as amateur as it gets.

After Julio Jones missed a whole season because he broke the screw in his foot I've been a big proponent of athletes skipping the surgery and just letting the fracture heal on its own if at all possible
