When Jokic isn’t passing, the ball doesn’t move. In theory that shouldn’t be so crippling because Murray should be a more than capable facilitator but there’s been plenty of times where he shyts the bed and nothing happens.

Cam has less freedom with Denver but he’s there to make the spot up shots MPJ became unreliable at making. Jokic can whip up a triple double in 26 minutes flat. The rest of that time they tend to watch each other.

Joker forces them to play team ball...without him, it's a lot of getting mine/passing at the last second.

Why don't people criticize jokic for limiting players like they have russ and moreso lebron before him? Seeing all these nuggets players pull out skillsets I never knew they had cause he chasing assist/usage is interesting

Is that a criticism of jokic or admitting that the team is forced to run a system to benefit him? Because I was told for years jamal Murray can't be a lead guard, mpj is only a spot up shooter, Aaron Gordon is a bum, Payton Watson just some scrub etc. Look at how cam Johnson plays without jokic, versus how he forced play with him.

As with all heliocentric systems, it often encourages lazy coaching and dumbs down the collective group over time.

i.e. Why put in a system or practice anything that requires / builds individual or collective playmaking competencies… when you can just have [insert] hold the ball/make all the decisions and have the team merely “survive” during the non-[insert] minutes? It works, until it doesn’t. Then it crashes and burns.

I made the Shai/Luka comparison last year: Shai allows IHart autonomy to run a 2-man game (dribble handoff screen/misdirections/backdoors) with Isiah Joe. Luka in place of Shai would tell IHart to PnR only for him and Isiah Joe would stay in the corner. End result? Luka gets more assists (and TOs) but IHart and Isiah are now dumbed-down versions of themselves.

Also affects media perception. AJ Mitchell is Jalen Brunson in Dallas but without needing Shai to get hurt for ppl to really notice him. Hell, we see how amazed ppl are with MPJ now.

The [insert] player shouldn’t necessarily be blamed but obviously we know why the white versions are never blamed but the black ones are.
