A lot of teams are lacking a pass first, competent pg

Feels like they are thing of the past atp
That's because pass first point guards were always overrated. Outside of Isiah and Magic I'm trying to think of any PGs that averaged over 9 assists a game and won a title. And both of those were scoring threats.

Teams forgot how important it was because table setting PGs aren't being developed anymore :jbhmm:
they don't value it because table setting point guards generally only show their value on teams with quality players

using TJ again - imagine how important that skill set would look like on the wizards or nets. most GMs would be demanding he come back with a corner 3 or find a passport

i don't even think its a 'pass first' thing. a lot of teams think they can brute force offense and past a certain point you're just replicating a problem. like jrue damn sure ain't pass first but its easy to see why he's a point guard that teams miss

Nico just needs to hide in a mansion in Beaverton Oregon near the Nike headquarters because Luka seems adamant about letting the whole world know Nico fukked up.
I lived across the street from there he ain't hiding from nothing :mjlol: only a handful of people with melanin outside

Wouldn't say overrated

They served a role

Know hybrid players are the wave now but most can't even throw a good pass into the post

Just see the Rockets or think how much easier the game would be for Wemby which is a wild thought

They also can't anticipate passes, see two passes ahead, pass the ball into the shooting pocket, funnel the ball to the hot hand, pass the ball to the player with the mismatch.

Does Finch ever get the urge to place Ant anywhere but at the top of the key? The trouble tends to start when he’s taking on whatever 2-3 type scheme these team throw at him. He can make any shot. Put him in position to make quick decisions so the defense can be on their heels

I think that's more lacking fundamentals than anything which goes back to players not being taught the game properly at lower levels. I think a score first PG can still know the fundamentals and do all the things you are referencing.

Part of it too I think is that defense is just way more complicated in today's game. Teams are doing so many pre-rotations and fronting and changing of entry angles it's not as simple as the old days to make a post entry pass. Not to mention that with the rise of the 3 point shot defenders play much closer up on perimeter players adding to the difficulty of making those passes.
