By the way...and I'm not too big on WAR but just out of curiosity...

In 2000, Pedro posted a WAR of 11.7...which is super rare for pitchers.
How rare?
Well, it's good for 35th highest of all time. But before you roll your eyes, 31 of those instances happened 94 years ago or earlier.

Of the remaining 4 that occurred in the last 50 years:
Dwight Gooden (1984) 12.2
Steve Carlton (1972) 12.0
Roger Clemens (1997) 11.9
Pedro Martinez (2000) 11.7

Keep in mind that WAR has a cumulative component to it, so how much you pitch matters.

Gooden threw 276 IP
Carlton threw 346 IP
Clemens threw 264 IP
Martinez threw 217 IP

Martinez' adjusted ERA+ blew them all out of the water by something like 70 points though

Pedro is #1 without question in their respective primes. To do what he did in the AL East at the height of the Steroid Era is unfathomable.

I came in here wanting to put Unit at #2 because I think there is a correlation to strikeouts and dominance, but looking at the numbers again, it's gotta be Maddux. The movement on some of his pitches was otherworldly.

Johnson and Maddux really didn't live up to the hype in the playoffs

So it's Pedro

top 10 seasons of innings pitched (rounded down to avoid partial innings)

pedro: 241, 233, 217, 217, 217, 216, 213, 199, 194, 186

maddux:268, 267, 263, 251, 249, 249, 245, 238, 237, 233

randy: 271, 268, 255, 249, 248, 245, 244, 225, 219, 214

Pedro's stats wouldn't have been nearly as great if he pitched a full workload in his prime like Clemens, Maddux and Johnson all did

200+ innings is not a full workload now? His body wouldn't have held up if they threw him out there for 250+ innings like that. If he was in the NL he could have flirted with 1.12...just think about that.

he WAS in the NL...his Expos years were the top 2 years he had for innings pitched breh :lolbron:

as a Yankees fan I respect his greatness and dominance and trust me I got memories of huge games of his but dude couldn't hold up and still dominate like the other 3.

Maddux was also robbed of 2 more longer PRIME years due to the 94-95 strike...dude could've done even more impressive shyt just like Thomas and Bagwell were on pace to do :mjcry:

:wow:At Lefty throwing 346 innings. I'm SO glad that I'm :flabbynsick: and had the pleasure of seeing these cats pitch.

1. Pedro
2. Maddox/Unit

I can't choose number 3 :whew:

I've seen plenty of dudes pitch and I never hated/appreciated a pitcher more than Pedro, he was truly on some next level Bob Gibson/ Sandy Koufax stuff. I've seen all of your list in their primes and Doc is my fav, but Pedro is:ohlawd:
