Above the fray.
Possibly. I also thought it could be a clever way of saying "you know what it is to take an unexpected loss", which explains the remaining lines in the chorus.

thanks, i could buy that

It means he handles beef.

thanks, just listened to the song with that in mind and it does make sense that way

I still refer to the song as "paperchaser" because that's the only part I caught or understood when I first heard the song..so I thought the chorus was about chasing paper.....stacking money....making something out of nothing

when i first noted that it was reverse..making nothing out of something, it threw me off

Tyga - Lapdance

"Like conscious rappers, mad cuz we winning
Snub long nose, call it Scottie Pippen"

Referring to a gun as a snub, such as a 38. Snub-nosed revolver indicates the barrel is short.

Long nose means the barrel is long, which fits the Scottie Pippen metaphor.

Tyga is telling us he has a gun that has a long AND short barrel at the same time.

"Will Nipper the doggy give a big shove?"

Q-Tip had some weird lines on the first Tribe album, but this one was just :dahell:in ways I can't explain.

I mean, I know they call him the Abstract but.........
Nipper the Dog was a dog in a picture listening to a gramophone that became the basis of a record statue given out by EMI or something,
So he's asking if the major labels are gonna push his act, or not, because he's obviously so goddamn esoteric

Damn.. Q-tip was on some other shyt. I had to look that all up. Good catch dunny. I think I think I thought he was saying "We'll nip off the bud or give a big shove," as in, ATCQ would cut your crew and push your wack ass out of here.

Make perfect sense

Chorus starts off about somebody balling but ends with it telling him "dont be crying "

Why would somebody that was doing so good gon be crying unless they made nothing outta something
:francis:

Yeah, I can't say that's what he meant for sure but that's the only way it makes sense to me.

I guess it kinda helps my case that Mr "I lost 92 bricks" jumped on the remix.

"You'll be aight like drug money in a pimp's cum" - Nas
This one. I think he says blood money, but that doesn't make sense either. I think he's trying to say something like whenever a pimp has sex, there's blood money involved, but that doesn't really make sense to me. Maybe every-time a pimp spends money it would be blood money in a way? If any of his whores were killed or injured, etc. But when he has sex? That doesn't make sense.

So glad you mentioned this, because people always say it's a dope line, and it sounds like it is deep, but makes no sense IMO.

And another gross weird one...Sauce Money on Bring It On - "Star studded bytches with crystals Get fukked with pistols, just to see my shyt, discharge puss"

:ohhh: I never would have caught that. That's always been a line I couldn't figure out at all. Nice work. :salute:

I HATE to to do this to Brad Jordan, but...these lines make NO sense unless words mean different things in Houston.

Scarface(the real GOAT).....Mind Playing Tricks on Me....his second verse

Often drift when I drive/
having fatal thoughts of suicide/
bang and get it over with/
then I'm worry free but that's bullshyt/
I got a little boy to look after/
and if I die then my child will be a b*stard/

????????????????????????
=====
Also

Scarface "A Minute To Pray and a Second to Die"

He had a baby that he couldn't raise
And she will never see her father again, cause he's in a grave
Hey yo, let's think about it, nilla
"My daddy was a dopeman, so I'mma be a dope dealer" (said by his daughter)
How will the family explain it?
"My daughter had a baby for a 'caine head!"(said by his girl's father)

???????
So was the dead man a dealer or a drug user?

======

Later in the same song

He ain't around to see her walk
Dry her eyes when she cries, pick her up when she falls
Just the thought of a kid livin foul fukks me up
When his girl has to raise a b*stard child
It gets deeper, he used to punch her and beat her

????????? wtf....
b*stard means orphan in Houston??????

"B-stard" means orphan (boy) everywhere.

It's a cussword because back in the day if you didn't have a father (especially as a boy)
you was ass out because a father is the one who has to show you how to be a man...
...and not just in the sense that somebody taught you how to act, or treat women, etc.,
but in the starket sense, a lot of times you learned your trade for your livelihood from
your father.

So basically, if you were a boy without a father then your future was more likely to be
that you were a soft boy who couldn't work/do anything. That was a curse.
It's just like when folks on here call somebody "fatherless". "B-stard" always meant that.

(sidebar: I think that's the most pivotal bar in "Mind's Playing Tricks On Me")

Also, the dude in the second song was a drug dealer AND a drug user.

"You see these nikkas can't flip doing things that sick (like what)
Cut off your damn dikk, make you eat your own shyt
But I love a little mayhem fukk it, we can do it
Don't let me get off that masso candy and some fluid" A-1 verse on E40's Mayhem

He said "nasal" candy.

Almost.

Nipper was the RCA dog. Most products RCA manufactured had a picture of Nipper looking at the gramophone -
that includes stuff from RCA Records.

ATCQ was on Jive Records, and at the time Jive Records (in the USA, at least) was distributed by RCA.

So Tip was making a direct statement to his record company at the time.
