I understand Gillie has a successful platform, but I truly wish he wouldn't interview rappers that rap about that bullshyt. Those are probably the same type of dudes that killed his son.

And also, it never sat right with me that Gillie, being an old head, would constantly say "old heads need to stop hating on the young dudes"
who else he going to interview :sas2:

I agree with the message, but I question the authenticity and timing of the messenger. Gillie has a mouth and can say those words about his fest if that’s what he desires. This kinda comes off as brown nosing and opportunistic. Like look at me and my conscious music. Not feeling that. If I’m wrong, my bad, but this and the emotions expressed seem contrived and performative.

If rapping about certain topics is off limits, why even have rappers at Gilliefest at all? :stopitslime:

So wait till the event is over and then u can get back onto killing the ops and scooping up dudes dead mama and granny… oh ok

FOH

Nikkas always turn righteous and anti violence after they lose someone, for a week or two.
Watch Gillie return to violence rap and threatening people soon.

It doesn't matter if you are a rapper or a pastor, when someone close to you dies, you expect people around you to move with a little grace. And you should treats others with grace while they are hurt, grieve, etc. It's a disingenuous argument to think that he asking people to change their lives. He's just asking out of respect for gillie for the participants to move with grace, be respectful, pay homage.

It's cool to make that music, til you or someone you/we all know is affected by it.

Why not get to the root of the problem and say just stop rapping bout that ish period?
It's a wise argument. But nothing is off limits in life. People think there are limits. But nothing is off limits.

But then again its a matter of one's scope. You wouldn't tell a director to not have a rape scene in their movie, or a murder scene, or shooting scene, or a scene where a person is beat to death with their bare hands or a sex scene. Some people are wholly against that shyt and wouldn't watch, some people wouldn't watch if it's just gore and grotesque, others would watch if it's done with as much care and taste as possible. Some even ask, how do you do it right? Do you cutaway to the curtain flapping in the window? Does she keep her shirt on? If it's murder, do they show blood or not show blood? So the victims eyes or not? Maybe they don't show anything that happens to the body but just a blood splatter.

How do you do any of these subjects appropriately? How are they done inappropriately?

Nothing is off limits, we may choose to not listen or watch, but theres no unspoken rule or list of thing we cannot or should not rap about, joke about, make movies about or show in movies.

The question I would ask a rapper who takes issue with this is

“Why do you want to rap about killing so much in the first place?”

:lupe:
What if they are just telling their story? I ask because I know some people who are pissed about Terrance Crawford (the boxer) because tonight is his big fight and in interviews he's talked about how he's been shot, and being around or being shot at was normal for him for where he grew up so he just drove himself to the hospital. He's been out of trouble since and grown into a millionaire boxer and they are like "why would he say something like that??? He's just a thug!" He's just telling you how he lived and what happened to him.

I guess if you rap about it a few times you’re telling your story.

If you rap about it often, you’re promoting or highlighting a lifestyle/culture/image, etc…

I think, anyway.
