TYRONE GA!
Spice 1 was never from Oakland, he was from Hayward. He never outright claimed the Town but he always shouted out the Town and made Oakland references in all of his early music ("with my vogues still smoking hit 580 to Oakland... hit a left on 23rd and seen my homeboy June") and shot his videos in Oakland (i.e. "Welcome to the Ghetto") and wore nothing but Raiders and A's gear.

He from Hayward? :ohhh:

Is it really that hood there?

ATLANTA ZONE 3
shyt it really depends on where u at in Decatur tbh...I grew up off Candler Rd. Drive down the street and you in Atlanta :manny: so I understand dudes from Candler Rd, Glenwood Rd(not Ave), Flat Shoals, Bouldercrest, claiming Zone 6 even if they not in the city limits...I never claimed Zone 6 tho cuz I understood I wasn't actually in Zone 6 :skip: Now those Lithonia and Stone Mountain nikkas claiming Zone 6 had me like :martin: in school

Yeah I feel ya. The worst part about being on the Dekalb side of Atlanta is that you gotta drive to the goddamn Decatur courthouse and South Dekalb mall for permits and car related shyt. That's farther from me then the Fulton County courthouse and downtown/five points. :mjcry:

i remember thinking for the longest that this nikka was from brownsville or ENY :dead:

per wiki--

Elam was born in the Roxbury neighborhood of Boston, Massachusetts. His father, Harry, was a judge and his mother, Barbara, was the co-director of libraries in the Boston public school system.

dude was far-removed from the street life :wtf:

funny af cuz this is one of the quintessential tracks you think of when you think of hip-hop coming out of BK... shout out to premo and the whole borough

Guru had a college degree too. He even worked as a social worker for a short period of time. It doesn't strike me as odd that Guru came from a Huxtable type of family because some Gang Starr tracks did have a low-key Cosby show type of vibe like "Ex Girl to Next Girl" when he was talking about his ex-girl on the last verse. Gang Starr was also popular in an era where black folks from the hood were portrayed more accurately as regular people in the media with shows like A Different World being popular and groups like Tribe Called Quest making hits.

And Guru definitely did rep BK super hard:

What a lot of folks don't realize is that Guru was somewhat of an older cat when he was making classics with Gang Starr. Guru was already in his early 30's when he dropped Daily Operation. Guru had been living in Brooklyn since his early 20's and he came to NY with nothing, sort of like Pac when he came to the Bay. And just like Pac did in the Bay, Guru learned about the street life and got put on the Rap game in NYC in his 20's instead of his childhood and teenage years in Boston. Like he said on "Royalty" "been dealing with cats in the streets for years so they my men". And Gang Starr, despite the name, was never a hardcore gangster group, they were more like Pete Rock & C.L. Smooth or the Main Source in being a socially conscious rap collective comprised of everyday average dudes from the hood with a slightly more street edge. Guru rapped about maybe selling a little bit of drugs on "Code of the Streets" but he never rapped about being knee deep in the dope game and killing people.

If Wale ain't from DC, then Serena Williams ain't from Compton. :upsetfavre: You see what I did there. :troll: Serena moved away from Compton at age 9 but you don't see anybody from Compton screaming the Williams sisters ain't from the CPT. :jbhmm: It's because DC is a hater city. If you have lived anywhere except for DC or PG everyday of your life, you ain't from DC or PG according to DC/PG logic. Yes, cornballs born and raised in MoCo and NoVa say they're from DC but never lived in the District. But Wale lived in murder cap era DC in the early 90's just like how Serena and Venus Williams lived in N.W.A. era Compton. DC nikkas are also mad that they never had a Nas type of messiah character born and raised in the projects to drop classic music back in the 90's. Wale was the first rapper to put the DMV on the map and he didn't sell crack to his mom out of a bando in SE DC so he's really not from DC according to DC nikkas. :snoop: A heckler tried to call out Wale on Twitter saying "I be on Georgia Ave everyday" and you never there type of shyt and Wale ethered him when said "that's your problem is that you're on Georgia (Ave) everyday". :russ:

This is why I don't claim Baltimore even though I can. The DMV is filled with nothing with haters.

As far as this thread go...

Messy Marv ain't from the Moe, he's really from Pittsburg (East Bay suburb an hour away from the City) and lived in the P until he was 15.
