No you considered crazy if you think IWW wack as you should be
No you considered crazy if you think IWW wack as you should be
if u nas stans keep it 100, it was written was pretty much considered a let down by pretty much everyone up until the beef with jay in 2001 when u stans went back and revised history and all of a sudden started bigging up IWW because you wanted to dispel the notion of the 1 hot album every 10 year average narrative..
when it was written came out, lauryn hill saved it from being a complete flop
then i am came out and mostly everyone who heard the og version of that album thought the commercial release was
and we all know how nastradamus was viewed back then and even now
then jay pointed out the fact that nas was putting out duds and u stans went into over drive revising history :wbrook:
we even found his fat wives blog where she wrote about her struggles with anxiety disorder and self-mutilationSteve Flash Juan was exposed by Dipset stans on SOHH as a white dude from Iowa or somewhere Midwest. Dude looked like Ron Swanson from Parks & Rec....thread was classic until he got the administrator to delete it![]()
Online is the only place that I ever heard any IWW slander. Back in the Summer of ‘96 in Philly I heard it played EVERYWHERE and everyone loved it! Illmatic didn’t get no where near as much love as IWW did, but this is just what I’ve seen in my own life!

Honestly it's kind of a dope history lesson for the younger crowd. It's hard to imagine but It Was Written got hammered by critics and fans when it dropped. I got into hip-hop in 95/96 as a kid and It Was Written I heard before Illmatic so it just sounded dope to me. But apparently since Illmatic was so beloved, hip-hop purists really hated that Nas linked up with Trackmasters, Dr. Dre, etc, and It Was Written was viewed as a sort of sellout album where Nas tried to cash in and go mainstream. It's the album that made me a Nas fan so I didn't know better. Why post this? Why did you even read it? Smh. It was probably written by some nobody cracker who started liking hip hop when Eminem came out.
IWW is a good album...it's certainly not great or Illmatic levels.
Beats are weaker compared to Illmatic.

Over the years a lot of purists have warmed up to the album but it was hated on by a lot of cats when it dropped, and some older heads to this day are rubbed the wring way by the album.
It Was Written is also maybe the album that caused the mainstream/underground split/dichotomy.
Same here bro.agree... I bought IWW and went back and got Illmatic. Think I said this on here before. I had all the cassette singles for Illmatic, but not the actual album. I didnt get Nas at first enough to be a fan. I was heavy into Redman and Keith Murray type punch line rapping at THAT time. Nas wasnt that. Now granted I loved Rakim and 80's rappers, who also didnt use heavy punchlines, its just I had to get back into it with Nas and then Mobb etc...
