so you REALLY gonna act like
illmatic didnt get 5 mic classic from the hip hop bible & 2 years later IWW didnt get 4 mic
So with this being the case, on top of I Am being more respected in real time (99) than it is in retrospect (present day), Jay's claim of Nas's 1 hot album is false :skip:

i ruled the world aint got no certification

dead president & street dreams both went gold (and i can pretty much say with confidence - that it only sold due to the R Kellz rmx)

so its basically Aint No nikka vs I Ruled the World
and we all know which was the bigger song

I don't recall dead presidents going gold ... I think Street Dreams is the only one between the 2 that did. Could be wrong though.

Im talking about real life bro

:yeshrug:

like i said in another thread
around 8 outta 10 aka 80% of da nikkaz i know felt IWW was somewhat disappointing
NOT that it was wack or anything....
its a very solid album
but with all the greatness of illmatic added with the hype of Dr Dre it left us a bit underwhelmed

If I Ruled the World actually does have overseas certifications
And I dont know why you would say with confidence that Street Dreams single went gold because of the remix, when it wasn't even on it. The B side was the Affirmative Action remix

overseas :stopitslime:

homie...
50 cent use to say that nonesense
his album was like 4 or 5 times platinum but in interviews say he diamond overseas

anywayz
i recall the original with affirmative action pn it thereafter them releasing it with the R Kelly remix on side B

lmao @ saying IWW faded while RD, an album that basically flopped, was relevant in 1996. Come on man. Yea RD made some impact in certain circles but overall? Nah. Even Jay himself admitted ("I gave you prophecy on my first joint but yall all lamed out").

"IWW was a big album" and "IWW was poorly received by many rap purists" are arguments that can exist side by side, and they're true. A lot of people thought the album was a sell out move. Meanwhile regular, mainstream rap fans loved it. I think the album has gained a lot of respect over the last decade+ because sonically rap ultimately moved where Trackmasters were going on that album. Those beats sound a lot like the shyt we dap Rick Ross for rapping over now.

:what::dahell::snoop:

you gonna act like they both didnt get the same rating

it-was-written-and-reasonable-doubt-reviews.jpg

both dropped summer of ‘96
the only difference was IWW faded out quite quickly, the only buzz he got was street dreams rmx w/ R kellz in the fall thereafter you pretty much didnt hear anything from IWW on the radio, in the clubs, on mixtapes or in the street
WHILE
RD soared well after it dropped
cant knock da hustle w/ mary j - was a club classic
BK finest w/biggie - hardcore classic
and joints like... can i live; D’evils; bring it w/ jaz & sauce money were mixtape
/street bangers which made RD very much relevant well into ‘97

None of this is true:mjlol:

It Was Written was number one for FOUR WEEKS STRAIGHT. How in the HELL did its buzz fade “quickly” when it was a number 1 album four weeks in a row?

IWW debuted at number ONE and went double platinum in 2 months. Reasonable Doubt debuted at number TWENTY THREE and didn’t go platinum for SIX YEARS.

not talking about the OG review by Steve Flash Juon that trashed the whole album this one was done in 2012

Nas :: It Was Written [revisited] – RapReviews.com

How you gonna give Nas a 7.5 on lyrics when he was rapping his ass off for the whole album?

the 6.5 on beats? Trackmasters imo did their thing here not to mention Premier, Stretch, Hav, etc

I guess one questionable song out of 15 brought down the whole album for dude:francis:
It wasn't Illmatic 2

IWW did fade out - like i said besides R Kellz rmx street dreams & maybe a lil affirmative action here in there I don’t remember hearing any of those tracks being played in the fall/winter of 1996

RD - how was it a flopped ?
a new artists on a new start up label in which the album goes gold it’s
1st single goes gold
its 2nd single is the featured song to a Hollywood blockbuster movie

doesn’t sound like a flop to me :hubie:

Do y’all just skim through post that you particularly don't agree with ?

I said it faded out because the album dropped in the summer and by the fall/winter the album was basically non-existing

and the funny thing about all this is that your post proves my point
yes.... IWW was the number one album for several weeks
yes.... IWW did go double platinum within two months
That’s because Steve’s Stoute his new management and Columbia records heavily push this project

but again tell me what tracks were getting played in the fall/winter besides street dream rmx

i’ll wait :hubie:

Eh, people were still playing the whole album. Street dreams didn't even drop until fall as a single.
